Mexican Red Head Parrot

Mexican Red Head Parrot -- Could you guys fill me in on these guys?
I've been looking at double yellow headed zons... but what the owner says about this one makes them sound so sweet!

So far it's either a double yellow headed amazon or a Grey. But I'd like to know more about these guys.

Thanks so much! Sorry for all the questions I just want to make sure I make the right choice and don't want to jump into it.

They are said to be very nice birds, certainly more laid-back than the "hot three" Amazons especially the males - DHY, YN and BF. I don't think as a rule they have the exceptional talking ability of a few of the Amazons, but then neither do Lilac-crowned or Red-lored, and they can make very nice pets also. By the way the Mexican Red-head is also known as the Green-cheeked Amazon, same species.

Oh they are the same as the green cheeked? Thank you for letting me know that.

It actually states in the ad he's able to talk.

"I have a beautiful and funny Mexican Red headed parrot. His name is Pepper and we just think he is a male. We are not positive. He says hello , whats up, here i am, here i are, and makes funny little noises and can say other things also. He is just a great cute parrot and it talks in the happiest voice! It will brighten your day. Since it is the hormonal time for amazons i handle him with gloves. He has NO problems with gloves. He will step right up onto them and let you scratch his head with the other hand without a glove. We think he is a one person bird but will take some time to get use to you and he is just very sweet, beautiful and happy."

Sorry for all the questions I'm just making sure I decide on the right parrot.

Okay, this bird bites, that's why she's using gloves. Is that what you want? Some people can work with biting birds, and the bird may turn out to be a fine pet, but you do have to know what you're letting yourself in for. Many Amazons can talk some, but the exceptional talkers are the DYH and YN, sometimes YC and BF.

Is this your first "big" bird? The cockatoos are cool, but very can be very needy. I don't really know anything about the greys or the zons. I have hand fed some but when we would have them at the pet shop they would always sell fast.

Reta, I was going to ask about that if I decided to go with him. I'm willing to work with him. :)

Monica this is my first BIG bird... We've had smaller ones but this is my first big one. I'm home all the time and I do want an attention hore. :p Either way as much as I've been researching it seems they are all pretty similar to some extent.

I've received quiet a few emails so far and I think I may go with a cockatoo I'm not positive yet!

This lady hasn't emailed me yet.

i wouldnt suggest a too.
too's need a special, devoted, and experienced person.

not ever home is suited for a too. i have had U2, M2's, LSC2's & triton.

I have a DYH zon as well. Have had an OW & BF. 2 0f the Hot three, and Males toboot. They can be difficult as well .You have to figure what type of species fits in your home. if you dont take that into consideration, the bird may be rehomed again because he didnt work out.

Ok thanks Lisa for letting me know. But what does 'too' mean exactly?
It's a good thing I asked!
