Question Yellow Faced Amazon

Hi All, so I bought a Amazon yesterday - male 10yrs old. He's a big bird .. I never thought Amazons can be so big or maybe he's just fat .. I donno. They claim he is unfriendly which I don't think is true because he let me touch him once or twice last night but of course it takes time for them to get use to you.

I am somewhat worried about him because his home for the last 6 months was not the best. He lived with heavy smokers...it's so bad in there that I can't stop coughing since I picked him up last night. Is the smoking bad for them .. should I be worried? I feel so bad for him but i'm glad he's able to breath some fresh air. They have another female amazon 6yrs old but she pluck herself from time to time..im thinking of taking her away from there .. if only i can afford it.

so he talks and he talked to me last night, i'm hoping that was a good sign thats he's maybe happy. I need any feedback ASAP. Thanks much for reading.

Smoke is no better for them than it is for us.
He could be over weight, but without a gram scale that will be hard to tell.
Yes they are quite large birds and very solid especially as they get older.
I would definitely see about getting him in for a vet check to make sure everything is ok with him.

Congrats on your new bird. Amazons can be loads of fun, but they can be touch me nots as well.

Congratulations! I have never seen a yellow faced amazon in person but they look cute. I hope that things go well for both of you!

I did looked it up and of all i've seen he looks like a yellow nape. The home I took him from said he was a yellow face .. i knew they were off the moment i saw him because i was guessing a yellow face would have yellow on there face lol. He is fun tho..just have to get use to us i guess. He talks alot but we cannot pet him yet. He love his toys as he never had any in the previous home.

He is sooo cute! Congrats on the new bird! I'm glad he isn't in that smoke filled house anymore. Amazons can be a handful sometimes, but they are great companions, too! Just like any bird, they can have moments. Just be patient and work with him. He'll start to adapt. Good luck!
