Unhappy 9 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1

Ok I'm getting very nervous. I don't know if this is normal or not but my new amazon spit some white stuff not too long ago. Is it vomit? normal? This is my first amazon and I can't really afford a vet right now .. Can someone tell me what to do. I won't be able to sleep tonight. I am worried about him :( I hope it's nothing to do with him being in the smoking environment .. I guess I have to some how get him to a vet tomorrow if this is serious. Please advice .. someone .. anyone. Thanks

No bird should ever be anywhere in a "smoking enviorment". Cigarette smoke is very bad for birds as their respitory system is very fragile. I would make arrangements for who ever is smoking around him to take it outside.

How old is he? How long have you had him? What do you feed him? Has he done this before? What is his feeding schedule? Did you get him from a breeder or a pet store?

I know it's alot of questions but it's information we need to help you.

Of course the only real advice we can give you is if you are worried take him to an AVIAN VET. If money is an issue see if you can work out a payment plan with your vet. Whenever getting a pet, you should always consider whether you can afford medical attention if needed. It's not fair to the bird to deny them the care they need. If you need help finding a AVIAN VET in your area we can help with that.

It could be a bonding regurgitation or a feeding behaviour.

Please keep us updated on your baby.

Well I only got him 2 days ago and if u've read my previous post you would know that I took him out of a smoking home ... no one in my family smokes nor will they ever. I think I did a good thing by taking him out of there so please don't come down at me as if i'm trying to hurt him .. i could not sleep last night just thinking about what could be wrong with him .. i dont know what these people did to him. He is 10 years and i'm feeding him fruits and veggie as they said thats what he is used to..I also try hand feeding him bread and chicken and he ate it. Thats all i give him since the 2 days i've had him.

The family had 2 of then..i could only afforded 1 so i took him .. they still have a girl who is 6 and i'm worried about her as well. I am trying really hard to get someone to take her out of that home. They use to have both of them in 1 cage and they only had the bird for 4-6 months .. i dont know why they got them if they knew they could not care for them. My heart breaks for these birds even tho i'm no expert .. i can def give them a safe home.

It's possible he was regurgitating food to you if he already is considering you to be his main friend. You need to observe when it's happening and if it's only when you are near him. If you have any doubts about his health, he does need to see an avian vet. If you can't afford vet costs, you may want to try and find a good home for him, since it is a necessary part of keeping pets to get them vet care when needed.

I suggest buying a natural colored pellet to feed to him such as Zupreem or Roudybush (less expensive than Harrison's, also recommended) rather than feeding him bread and chicken. Pellets need to be supplemented with fresh vegetables and fruit.

I am looking up a vet near to see if they will accept a payment plan and ill try to take him soon. My heart wont rest until i do.

I do have vitamin .. ill add it to his water and for the time being. Thanks again

at first glance he looks alert and not puffed up or anything, obviously eating OK. None of my birds will regurgitate for me, my kids and husband hate it when they do that, but I feel rejected. Maybe he just loves you! Still not a bad idea for a vet check for sure. He's lucky you took him out of that environment. Good luck with him!

While with any new bird a vet check should be in order, it could be regurgitating, he looks happy, and that happens alot when they are happy and have good food LOL! Gorgeous Yellow Nape, looks just like our Sunshine!

I'm sorry I'm just getting caught up on his diet. Do you mean to say he doesn't get pellets or seed? Fruit, veggies are great, but they need a staple. Bread is not a good staple because it is very refined and lacking in nutrients. There are lots of recipies on this forum for birdie bread (very different from people bread) and mash, and information on pellets. I use goldenfeast blends because there is a large number of ingredients, but in any case he should have some commercial bird food (unless you do the mash or birdie bread) in addition to fruits and veggies.
