nesting behavior?
Our 5 year-old OWA has been demonstrating a different behavior for some time
now. He/she goes to the floor and a back corner of her cage. He sort of growls and groans a bit. He will pick at the newspaper below the grate, pull it up and shred some of it. My questions are does he want to build a nest and is he a therefore most likely a she? Thx |

It does sound like hormonal behavior. My female amazons will squat down, flutter their wings and make a moaning sound. I've never heard my male make that noise though. If you want to know for sure, DNA is still the best way to go. My male amazon does take part in nest making, but its mostly chipping away at the entrance to the nest box and trying to kill me.
