Beating myself up over 'if' I should add another Amazon
Is all I can say. I found a baby Orange Wing Amazon baby close by and it's available. He/she is the most adorable little baby. I have an almost 2 yr old Male Red Lored that is very sweet. I am having doubts about some of the things that I've read here, one of them the fight between the Orange Wing and DYH that has me thinking. Not because it's an OWA, but the fact that two birds coexisted for years and had no issues and then did. Also reading about Zons going to each others space. I guess I am afraid to upset the balance that is within my house with my Amazon being "the main Guy" and bringing another one in would/could rain on his parade. The last thing I'd want was an issue between them. Anyone have any thoughts on this? It's not a dilemma, it's as easy as a yes or no situation. I feel sort of guilt ridden that I'd be honestly cheating my Boy or cheating him from a possible lifelong buddy.

No wonder you want da baby! Look at that cute wittle zon face. Oh my goodness, so adorable. Honestly, no one can say what will happen if you decide to bring home another baby. You will want to quarantine the newbie, then introduce them slowly. I only have one zon but I do have other birds. My girl does best with birds her size. She can be a real brat about other birds. She does do the bully thing. They have to be willing to stand up to her. Once they let her know they aren't going to take any crap from her, she starts respecting them. I know a few people who have multiple zons. One lady has had hers for years. She's never had a problem. She has males and females. That isn't to say that yours will get along or what will happen in the future. Aggression and fights can happen between any two birds regardless of species. Red loreds and Owa are pretty close to the same size which would be a good thing. I guess it comes down to if you really want another baby or not. Do let us know what you decide.

small world.. I've been looking at that same baby, inquired a week ago from the breeder (Avian Paradise), he does seem perfect. That face is irrisitable isn't it? I asked her to make sure the one available IS the one in the picture. I have the same concern, I have a 1 year old Panama, don't know if his life would be happier with another amazon buddy or if he would be jealous because he does demand a lot of attention. Strange because I always thought amazons were very independent. But he gets lots and lots of shoulder rides and is the center of attention now.

I have dogs, cats, and well my Amazon thinks he's one of them They bark, he barks. He's not alone and has his Parrotlet buddy across the room and they vocalize a bit, so he does have company of another fid.If you get this baby, it's a good price too and the best thing of all he/she was local to me within 2 hours drive.

your amazon is almost 2 and you only have a p'let besides. I would think you should be able to spoil them both. I don't think I could do justice to that sweet OW baby face. I dont think Tiki is like a normal amazon, he wants to be on a person almost all the time. If I got another zon it would have to be more independent. Maybe an older bird, one of the more aloof types.
sorry didn't realize you replied right before me. It is a better thing to feel like your spoiling your pets than spreading yourself too thin. You loose all the joys of pet ownership that way, and they become a face in the crowd. My amazon preens himself next to my alexandrine, she flies over to the swing next to his play area everyday. They may not be the same species but they enjoy each others company. But that face.. pretty irresistable huh?? someone will snap him up, hopefully spoil him.

Yes, Hoosier will be 2 in Sept. He's fully flighted and very happy. He takes flight a few times a day in the great room where he spends all of his time. So that would be an issue of worst case scenario, two birds who become territorial with each other's stuff. I don't think I can handle that, and to have cage out time on rotation, definitely not what I want.
You cannot have the parrotlet around the Amazon, he's just too little. Even though they are tough, they have never been together. Same room yes, my Amazon has gone over to stand on his cage top and they ignore each other pretty much.

yeah.. don't ruin a good thing. put that OW baby face out of your mind! I'm trying my best. My amazon prefers my son though, so I get jealous sometimes and want a zon of my own to play with. But soon he will be going away to bootcamp and advanced training, and I will steal that zon's heart back!
thanks for reminding me of the benefits of keeping your flock manageable. I really like feeling like my birds are spoiled. I hope I can keep it that way. It's hard not to get carried away with so many beautiful babies and also so many birds that need a better home.

We both share in his existance so he has no chance to choose on over the other but you never know. The P'et now he's definitley a Momma's boy as are my dogs, in that case Momma's boy and Girls.Trust me, I got off the net and went out and washed my other bird, my Firebird makes me feel better when my car is all clean.

Tiki goes back and forth between my son and me all day. He needs so much attention that I am glad he isn't a one person bird. He still cuddles with me and hangs out with me but when he sees Kyle he gets all excited. Part of the reason he shows preference to Kyle is because Kyle will not play with the other birds in front of Tiki and Tiki sees me with other birds. It's as though he's thinking, well, if she can have other birds, I can have other humans!
