plastic toys and big beaks

Tiki loves chewing on everything. He has some heavy duty thick plastic toys for big birds, that he can chew pieces off. I am worried he will swallow a piece of plastic. Should I not allow him to have plastic toys? I can't believe the stuff he can chew through.

I give my zon plastic toys. She literally won't play/chew with anything else. I would watch your zon carefully and just see how she chews up her plastic. I was initially worried about ingestion, but not now -- Tori throws everything out. Tori has no interest in wood or shredding. I've bought her stuff made out of seagrass, but so far she has shown no interest.

Tiki shows interest in chewing other things, actually he'll chew on anything. But he likes plastic best. I don't think he would intentionally swallow it but he puts such gusto in his play. He's not the carefullest of birds. I think I'll stick to plastic that he can't break apart, it does actually exist.

Know your bird - they are all different. Most birds don't ingest toy parts and pieces, but some do. My Grey loves to shred anything, plastic, paper, natural shredders, but doesn't ingest any. My Parrotlet eats paper, actually swallows it, so no paper shredding toys in his cage.

I was told that anything that is small enough for them to swallow would be small enough for them to pass. I don't know for sure this is true - has anyone else heard this?
