do they always pic the men?

just curious, it seems I have heard/seen a lot of amazons who pick the men of the family. Does anyone have a zon, who preferred the woman? or do they just see us as the slaves to cook and clean up after them, buy them toys and plead for their attention? not that I'm complaining.. Tiki's still my babe.

Actually, Rico, our MRHA, prefers me (the woman of the family). He absolutely HATES my husband, Jason. He mission in life is to make him bleed, and Jason personally believes he spends most of his day planning his death. :0) Jason calls him the little dinosaur for his ability to inflict pain. :0) Rico is definitely a woman's bird.

My Uncle has a Blue Fronted Amazon who's bonded to him the most. He's a sweety to almost everyones (most of the times.. :P) but if he see's my unlce in the room when someone else has him, he'll fly over to him and not let anyone else pick him up. But i think that relationships because my uncle was the one who raised him from a baby...

No, no, and definitely no. I've only met one zon that prefers men. Nearly all of the ones I meet love women. I have a hard time peeling them off of me. Where as, my poor husband has to be very careful not to get attacked. My amazon loves me and the woman who babied her when she was a wee lil thing without feathers and was afraid of everything. The ones at my vets all respond well to women. The one girl is a yn in her twenties who I would love to sneak into my carrier. There's one at the store here that is very bonded to a female employee and hates men. They have or had (haven't be there in a while) a yellow crown that stuck to me like glue there and at the other store he/she used to be at in southern Columbus. Even the zon I met who I was told only liked men talked to me. He just wouldn't let me touch him. I know a lady with 6 or 7 zons who adore her. I'd have a house full of amazons and eclectus if I lived alone.

Well, I was beginning to think they always loved men. My first parrot is a yellow naped and I was the one who wanted him...guess who he chose? My fiance! They have been inseparable ever since, but it worked out because my fiance was bit by the parrot bug, as they say!

All of our birds are rescues and we have a few amazons, spoiled and I am the maid. The orange wing that came from our vet (I posted about her recently) I thought would love him best, too! I was sure of it...guess what? SHE LOVES ME!!! Yeah.

I think sometimes they just choose, although we do really try to be equal with them.

The above post is very sexist.

I thought my zon was sexist but actually, I guess it's me! I have a good relationship with Tiki, like a flock mate, until he sees my son, then he begs for him, once with my son he will lunge at me. I would say I have everything I would want from a pet bird in Tiki except that it does hurt when he lunges at me. His relationship with my son is more like that of a mate, which isn't supposed to be a good relationship anyway, yet when he melts like that with my son, I long for that too! So I was just wondering whether I should try again with another zon, or if they generally prefer men, or if either your a zon person or not, and neither seems to be true. Just like all the other birds, it's an individual thing. But I think amazons have strong preferences when they choose someone, and I hate to be the one left out in the cold again! I like hearing everyone's experiences. They have such strong personalities and loyalties to people. There is no halfway anything with a zon.

yay!!!! so happy she chose you!! a well deserved reward for all your years of rescuing and caring for zons. I read that story about people who abandoned her, I guess it really was meant to be and am happy for both of you.

I just realized how selfish I am, talking about Tiki as the perfect pet (he is a friend not a pet and I should be grateful) and wanting one to bond to me as their chosen one and forgetting all the joy it brings me to share my life with Tiki. What my son has with him is a beautiful thing, for both of them.
