Males of this species show more aggression than females once they reach sexual maturity.

If you have a male and female, the male will be extremely aggresive once mature. You will not be able to handle him, and he will protect his mate from you also. My male would rip me to shreds if he could LOL.

Double yellow amazons are considered one of the "hot" three. If you do get a dy I suggest just one. You can manage their aggression with good training and socialization, understanding that at least once a year they will be in breeding mode and more aggressive then normal. I have what I think is a male dy amazon and he is sweet as pie.
He is only 2 yrs old right now though, but I know a 12 year old male and the owners worked really hard to keep him well socialized and he too is a sweet heart.
There are also environmental things that you can do to lessen their hormonal times.

think long and hard about a dy

Just because I'm curious... I have heard that a Blue Front and now Double Yellow headed are 2 of the hot 3... what is the third? I only ask because the two that I've seen that I thought were beautiful turn out to be the 2 listed...

Yellow naped amazons are the other member of the 'hot 3' group.

This is a fantastic article by Joanie Doss about Amazons, and the hot 3 in particular. I think you'll enjoy it, and hopefully it will be helpful!

PS - Yes, I really think that every Amazon thinks they are "hot". Funny little things. lol
