Are Yellow Crowned Amazons the Best Well-Rounded Amazons?

They are not as moody and aggressive as yellow nape or double yellow headed, but yet their talking ability is similiar to those two. They are also known to be slightly less noisy than blue headed Amazons as well.

Are yellow crowned amazon the best overal amazons?

You might want to look into panama amazons too. They have great personalities and are (usually) pretty decent talkers. I hope to have one someday. I think all amazons are great but that is what I hope to talk my hubby into someday.

I wouldn't trade my YNA for the world. He is hilarious, a cuddle bug (when he wants to), a great singer and recently an awesome flyer!

I love my YNA, she's the same as yours Tracie. She loves to have fun, is easily amused, and loves cuddles. In fact, she wants head scratches too often. She will get vocal (really cute calls) to get me to come over and preen her head. She is a constant source of amusement.

I love my Panama amazon. He loves to cuddle in the evening and melts into my arms. During the day he is a wildman, great talker, but not as independent as amazons are touted to be, he loves being the center of attention and will do whatever it takes to stay there. He loves to play and needs lots of area and swings to dangle off of and stuff to attack to be happy. He is a handful but worth every second of it. He's not aggressive but gets overly wound up and nippy too. That happens most when he feels your attention is elsewhere when it should be on him. If I only could have one bird it would be Tiki, my Panama, my buddy.

When I researched amazons I chose panama because of their reputation for being more laid back. I was suprised to find Tiki is very moody and can turn on a dime from being cuddly to attack mode during the day. In the evening he is pure putty in my hands. Be careful about generalizations. I think a lot of it depends on the bird. I'm glad I didn't know this about Tiki because he is worth every bit of it. Also 'not as moody or aggressive' for an amazon doesn't mean much because amazon's are all off the wall.

As much as Tiki is my heart, his true love is my son. There was a YN at a bird store that ran through an obstacle course to get to me that I foolishly left behind because of the reputation of the hot 3. Not that I regret Tiki one bit, but judging the bird that chose me based on it's species was foolish. I've never lived with one of the hot 3, so I can't compare, but I would not call Tiki laid back in a million years.

Going back I would make the same choice, because I had to rehome a U2, I am very wary of getting into something I can't handle. But I would expect some trouble from any amazon, they are rebels. It's best if you get to meet the bird, they are all such individuals. You might want to look at yellow shouldered if you are looking for good talking ability and less aggressive too. I've seen some in person and they were very nice, but I was afraid Tiki would try to eat one.

I don't know about the less noisy part, Panamas are similar to YC, and Tiki is VERY noisy when he's in his flare and strut mode. That might be one of those generalizations, all amazons are noisy and less noisy is still very loud.
