they are considered more laid back and a little quieter, but they are amazons after all, so you have to take that with a grain of salt! I read they are very devoted to their owners. Irena's Aviary on bird breeders. com has a couple of weaned babies. I was considering them, but I'm always so worried about how Tiki will react to another zon.

They are beautiful and yes, I've heard more even tempered. I'm still new enough to Amazons that I'm not sure what even-tempered is at the end of the day. It's like 'not loud' in parrot terms which I've come to learn in real life terms can still be pretty loud.

My Lilac Crowned is an absolutely wonderful amazon. He came to me from a friend who had raised him from a baby. He is very gentle - will always step up on my hand (unless he is on top of his very tall cage). Every night before I cover him, he must step up for night time kisses. He does not like to be actually touched much, but I have always wanted him to step-up from inside his cage. It is such a routine now that I don't even have to ask - he just comes over for that good night kiss. He is a good talker. When his flight feathers grow out, he will fly upstairs when I call him. If I am at the computer in a bedroom and call, he will fly to my shoulder. He likes to be where the action is, but just not be held and petted. He will take something as small as a kernel of corn from my lips. He has never biten me - but I do not push him into doing something that might cause him to bite. We respect each other. He does get loud a few times during the day - but with 5 caiques screaming, you hardly even notice him. Its usually around 7:30 to 8:00 when he is getting ready for bed - or maybe is ready for bed and trying to let me know. I don't know if they are all like my guy or if I just lucked out.
