Eastern Rosella

Hi there - We adopted our Eastern rosella, Ozzy approx 6 months ago as his first owner sadly passed away.

We are trying to work out what age he is but there is not a lot of information about these birds so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

He is a colourful, somewhat apprehensive bird who loves monkey nuts, whistling noises and toast.

He enjoys our company but does not want to be handled. Yet if either of us stands up to leave the room, he jumps forward and whistles to get our attention.

He is currently recovering from a very bad bought of weezing, coughing and sneezing. We really thought we had lost him, but he is a little fighter...

I would take him to an avian vet for the coughing and wheezing. He could have some kind of infection that needs medication.

Rosellas are not known for being pet birds in their native land-Australia. Most people consider them aviary birds. They are gorgeous though!

Are you in Scotland? I get the feeling that you are in the British Isles. If so, is this an avian vet? Sorry to ask so many questions, but we here in the States are pretty spoiled when it comes to access to good bird vets.

Thanks.

Falkirk, Scotland.

Hi, we do not have a lot of specialist Vets, they tend to work mainly in the Capital cities, however our Vet is very supportive and caring, she reads books and checks the Internet for information. She also consults the other Vets in the Practice. Thank you - everyone has been very helplful and I am glad that I found this web-site.

It is very cold here just now, 8 inches of snow last week - keeping Oz as warm as possible using advice we were given. E & G :
