Question Swift Parakeet

The Swift was at out local PJ Pets
the sweetest little thing - doing all sorts of dance & play next to the side I was standing. It seems so intelligent & like a rainbow! (they wanted $600Cdn) It really took my breath away & my resolve to waite. My husband gave me a sad face (he only agreed to look) & we left...

Does anyone have any experience with them? Website said they're endangered. Here's the site w/ a photo: http://home.hetnet.nl/~w.swinkels/38swift.jpg

I don't know of anyone here who has one, but they seem similar to barrabands...

I emailed the web-owner for the Swift & this was his responce.

Hello
Thank you for visiting my homepage.

I think swifts are not good pet, swifts are very nice birds but not in a small cage in a living room.
Feeding swift is not difficult but they need more than some seed, like fruits, lori food, eggfood, and their poop is loose [ not all the time ]

Don’t listen to the pet shop, all they want is money, [ most of the time ]

Better is buying a pair swifts, place them in a outside cage, size cage about 4x1x2 meters, if you like that of course.

Never clipping wings, its no good for birds.

Much better is a love bird, they can stay in a small inside cage.

I hope you understand my story, I don’t sell swifts for living rooms !!!!!!

Best regards
Willem

What a great guy - I'm very worried now about that sweet lonely Swift at the pet store ...

Photo of Swift

I was browsing I noticed that I never posted a photo of this little guy. The last time I was at the pet store they still had that little swift it is really bugging me. They're about the size of a GCC - maybe a little smaller.
I got this photo from: http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/threatened/swiftpic.html

Even here, you rarely see them at bird shows or pet stores. They are really pretty though!
