It was a 22.7mg bottle actually, giving 1.5 cc twice a day mixed with saline (4cc) as per recommended by vet. So, to put simple, thats 3 cc's Baytril a day, gone in a week.

Joel, this makes me very curious also. I would like to know the size of the vial in ml. and the percentage is of baytril, 2.5%, 5% or 10%. 3ml of baytril is a very large dose, 150mg using the 5% solution, 75mg of the 2.5% solution. The average dosage for a macaw is 10-15mg/kg or .01 to .015 per gram of weight. My new "Clinical Avian Medice" book shows a dosage of a bundgie at .03mg for gram of weight. I would not give my large birds for than .012mg/g of weight, 1650g bird would only get 19.8mg of baytril twice per day.

Maybe Monica is saying 3mg of baytil, it is not clear to me not knowing all the parameters.

For now all I can say is that I did not inject the Baytril into the bourke... rather it was mixed with Saline and put into the nebulizer which put the solution into the air that the bourke was breathing.

If you are using a 20-22ml bottle of Baytril, it would be gone in 5 days...

Guys, please pay attention to what she is saying: she is dilluting this solution in a vaporizer/nebulizer and its going airborne, not into the bird. There is a lot of waste, granted, but its only getting what its inhaling. This is kinda like putting Vicks in a vaporizer. You have to use a lot for it to work.

Sorry Monica........ I had totally fogotten, when I posted what I did, that you were using a nebulizer.
When I laid down last night to go to sleep I was thinking of coming back on (rebooting) to ask ya how ya were administering that dose but since it was already empty (the bottle of Baytril) I thought why get up, I can do it this morning. Now I see your post & Nancy's.

I could have avoided a lot of wasted time if I had just looked back to the prior page! ... Oh well..... I hope your Bourke totally recovers from his problem soon.

Thanks Nancy, and Joel it's alright! I thought about getting another bottle of Baytril however am not sure if it's needed. I had called my vet this week however he was busy in surgery so I left a message. Guess maybe I'd feel a bit safer using more Baytril, however not wanting to overdose her I haven't pushed the idea. This morning the bourke was 33/34 grams, and when she sees me with the syringe and Doxy she panics! She starts breathing harder, and if I am to try and reach for her she makes sure to fly around several times first! And when I'm administering the meds she squirms, squeaks, and squeals! She has decided that she has had ENOUGH of that stuff and doesn't want it anymore! She hadn't made this much of a fit before (well this has been going on for a few days now but it's more recent so to speak) so I think it's working!

As of lately, the bourke is doing better still. Her symptoms are from normal breathing and a slight tail bob, to a bit puffed up, opening of the mouth a bit, and entire body seems to be heaving a bit (usually when stressed), more-so if it includes a recent dosage of doxy.
