Mine are pretty laid back and non-aggressive like my Tiels. Princesses will never attack other birds. They are much more independant then my Tiels. They do what they want, they're the first ones to jump on the food table or go for any treats I put out. They aren't afraid of Chaska and won't get out of the way if she wants to eat, they will stand their ground and eat right beside her. The Tiels will let her run them off. Fortunately there is plenty of food to go around!

Would you say that they are more 'wild' in their personality?

Tiki – 'Independent' is an attractive trait - is this because you have a pair? I am surprised that your Quaker doesn’t rule the roost totally. Good for your Princesses – are they able to defend themselves? They are bigger than the Quaker right & about the same size as a Tiel?

Mammabird - Do you think it is just her - that she has difficulty maneuvering - or does she need more space to turn? Poor baby – it must have hurt her pride as well as her body to hit the wall!
I had a cat that was unable to walk on any surface that wasn’t at least 12" wide, or she'd fall off. I've never known a cat like her with such poor balance. The one I have right now will sit atop my trellising (2" edge) & watch the traffic 29 stories down - I put the trellis up to keep her in - so much for plans - now she' old she doesn't do it anymore thank goodness as we were all having heart attacks.

Please snap a few more pics - they are so unusual for me. The natural colours are lovely & the mutation is very cool. They have very cute faces.

I have pretty decent sized rooms but she was such a fast flier I don't think she may have had enough time or space to properly maneuver - she also seemed a bit unsure and scared (hey what am I doing up here???) and would sometimes do some circles obviously looking for a place to put down but too scared to make a choice only to end up in a corner with no place to go. A lot of depended on what direction she decided to go. Often she would take off and go straight into the wall on the opposite side of her cage. It really upset my other birds when she would take off and they would all start yelling which I'm sure made her more nervous. She doesn't chew or play with toys except to beak a bell occasionally so I thought to allow her to be flighted would provide her with some excercise and activity but at times her flight was so uncontrolled I had to put her safety first. Maybe the makers of the flight suits will design a birdy crash helmet and she can get her pilot license back.

I don't know if keeping them as a pair (both males since I don't breed) affects their behaviour. They don't need to defend themselves, no one ever attacks them, not even Chaska. They just aren't intimidated by here like the Tiels can be. She is actually pretty mellow for a Quaker. She gets jealous if I kiss other birds or cuddle them so I take turns bring the birds in the bedroom for quality time. They all live together in a huge indoor aviary, about 12 square yards/meters so there is plenty of room and toys for everyone. I have some pics in the album in the parrot section, I'll put some more up on the weekend if my poor old laptop will cooperate.

Tiki - I enjoyed the slide show - it really showed off the beautiful colours. I like their reddish beaks & that tail! The green seems almost neon bright & the red feathers on the ankles are a nice touch. Of course that gorgeous purple/blue butt was nice to see as well

Mammabird - Oh well you tried. Maybe an aviary like Tikis would be the ticket - thay she'd know her area well. I wish we could have an aviary - my husband says the next place we live in should have one.

My indoor aviary used to be a dining room for the previous owner. We are the "eat in front of the tv" types so we converted it!

Were there's a will there's a way. I always entertained 'buffet' style when I was single. Fond memories!
Our dining room is part of the living room, as is common with apartments. Most of my rooms are double functioning as it is, with both my husband & I working from home. luckily there are lots of places for the budgie & the cat to hang out too.

BEAUTIFUL birds! They certainly look like princesses. I would love an aviary to, since Star isn't hand-tamed at all and that's not going well. But we don't have enough room in the yard or anything so its not going to happen. I loved all the photos by the way, especially the one of her flying.

My Princess's

I have an aviary in Victoria BC Canada where I curerently keep 6 Princess and my one pair had 5 babies in December 2006 (which I have handraised and only have 1 available left)and now the pair is on 3 more babies. I have an outdoor aviary with access to an indoor flight and they are thriving, I find not a lot of people know about this bird and it is a real shame as they are my favorites! They make excellent pets who seem to keep their fondness of humans even after its been a long time since they had interraction.
My breeder male is not tame, yet he comes out on my hand as I feed the pair in my aviary, he is just anxious for his favorite food, greens and my special Bird soft food mix I make.
I also keep Splendids,(3 babies Nov 06, more hatching this week) Australian Kings and Bourkes as well as Crimson Bellied Conures.
