Birds Fighting !

ok, i work midnights, & am a pretty sound sleeper. with that info:

my 2 Rosellas are going at it...
the past 2 afternoons, i have woken up to loud screaching & fighting. it was so bad today, i had to physically put my hand in the cage to seperate them. then again tonight, they where at it so bad my wife had to step up & seperate them. i've had them for about a year now & yeah they have the odd dissagreement. like when 1 poops on the others head or something. but never like this. i have entertained the thought of putting them into seperate cages for a few days . but i am hopping to avoid that.

any suggestions would be welcome !

If you dont separate them someone will get hurt to the point of needing a vet or worse. Do you know the gender of these birds? If they are two males or two females and going through, or well into, sexual maturity it can only get worse. You need to separate them - you really dont have a Choice. You cannot Change instinctive sexual territorial behavior...at all.

Yes, separate them. Allow them out together under very supervised conditions.

I was just thinking .... since you're in Fairbanks and have no daylight, could it be your birds aren't getting enough sleep? ....especially since your working hours are strange as well. That could account for the problems in part.

You also said in previous threads that you're using gro-lights (for your plants as well as the birds). That could contribute to the problem as well. They may not be getting the nutrition they need because they're not getting natural or full spectrum indoor lighting. That could also account for the problem in part.

LOL , i live in Fairbanks like U mention. NOT Barrow. we do get daylight here ! LOL ..

i made an appoitment for later today with the lead vet @ my local vet clinic. she is a Avian Specialist. i will be asking her about my lighting & their placement in the house among other things. i dont like the idea of 2 cages for 2 birds. but if its what i need to do it will be done.

THANKS ALL For your replies..

Did you get them sexed?
Their behaviour sounded like 2 males in breeding condition fighting over territory.

yes they R both males. the fighting has stopped. they are in a better area of the house. getting a solid 10hrs of sleep if not more. i would love to get a couple of ladies for them, but am at a loss. cause theres no 1 up here who sells them. so unless i can locate some Females in Anchorage. that wont probably happen. as i don't like the idea of shipping a bird 4000+ miles.
