My Bourkes

Hi all, I'm new :)

I'm a breeder of finches (gouldians and societies) and as well have a breeding pair of Rosy Bourkes. They are a virgin pair. My goal is pursue their first clutch in June.

Unfortunately I've been able to find only little to no information regarding a proper registry for these birds, a club affiliation, or even a place to order proper sized bands. Those of you who have bred Bourkes, any information or resources you can give me would be of great help. I would also like to eventually purchase a pair of 'normal' wild-color Bourkes but nearly everyone I can find both local and national only seem to breed Rosys.

Thank you in advance!

Hi. I use these guys. Normal budgie bands should be Ok but he will suggest for you. He may call for English Budgie bands. I have not puchased bands for my Bourkes yet but will be soon. My pair is Virgin also although the female is mature and has laid a clutch for me they were all clear - the male was still very young last year and I dont believe he did anything. Let me know what he says about it. You can get registered bands thru him but get them early as they take longer.

I have Bourkes in my aviary. Wonderful pleasant harmless birds. A good dose of a birth control pill would be a big gift tho.!!!

I use English parakeet bands from L&M too. My bourkes need viagara! I found out that it seems to take them a few years to get going. I do not have luck with young birds breeding. So I just sit and wait and hope......

Welcome! Bourkes are so cute! My nana has a pair. A rosy bourke and a split normal/rosy (looks more normal though). She hasnt bred them though but could if she wanted. Good luck!

Courtney, splits dont show both ever anyways. It just means they have the genes for rosey meaning one parent was Rosey one was Normal. 50% of the babies will be Rosey and 50 % will be normal but split to Rosey. JUST FYI.

Oh ok, well it looks like a normal but is split with a rosy so could through normals or rosy babies.

would only throw Roseys if bred to a Rosey 50/50 but tis always not the case. 50/50 doesnt mean every clutch it means on average but I dont believe that, lol as it seems hard for me to get blue babies from same reasoning, lol.
