well wish i could give you the breeders info, but i don't know how to private message you?i had this guy shipped im in new york from florida, but i do know he had one more it could be female he did not really know?im starting to be disappointed in this bird,he is handfed and only 4 months old but does not seem to be very tame,i cant get him out of the cage he runs away from me,he just sits at the top perch he does get down to eat but thats it no playing with toys nothing does that sound normal?i don't know what age you got your bird at so i don't know if we can compare?

fltsfshr@comcast.net. It's a young bird. hard to tell if it's male or female. Males are usually easier to get along with if you check some of the other boards they don't rate females as a good pet compared to a male.

Mine is about 10 years old. With superbs, they don't pair. The boys go out and party together and only play with the hens during breeding season.

They aren't "toy birds" like my lovebird is. Mine shows no interest in toys either.
He has a talking mirror that he messes with a little bit but other than that he's an independent bird. Likes my shoulder, will spend hours calling other birds on my lanai but no where near as companionable as some of my conures were.

can they be taught to step up?or am i wasting my time?i don't want to chase him out of the cage to get him out and then how do i get him back in then?i did not want a needy bird or even a cuddly one,i have a white cap pionus for that, but if the breeder had told me that the bird will not really step up i would not have purchased him as i do not want a cage ornament,i had been looking into the polytelis species as i had a 5 month old male princess of wales for a short time but he died,he was great stepped right up no problems he was just a little louder than i would have liked, there is one toy he has been playing with it has these stringy things and a bell, but most the time he just sits on the upper perch come to think of it not much noise either.

mine steps up fine. he's full flight and doesn't like to in his cage when it's not his idea but everywhere else no problem. He goes back in easily most of the time :) . Yours could be finger shy, cover your hand or use a flat hand and try it.

OK well i will try working with him,i just think it's important that he step up at least most of the time,my pionus is not perfect at step ups every time either let's be real they do have minds of their own,so at four month's should he be so quite?do you know when they start to try singing?and if he turns out to be a she i could always ship her back to florida
