new addition to the family!

Hi all,

I had to let you all know, I've had another 2 additions to the family!!!

I was given a 6 week old Red Rump grass parrot, he's just beautiful, and already whisltes like there's no tomorrow! We called him "Amigo", he's Matt's (my other half) bird all over though. Matt will give him kisses and Amigo preens his goatee! It's just so cute! (And Matt said he doesn't like birds!!)
And a 5 week old Princess, we called Motzart! He/ she is just adoreable! and already knows the sound of his food being mixed in his little cup!!! Eat!! My goodness, I've never reared a parrot that eats soooooo much! no hesitation what so ever!

I just can't seem to resist all these parrots!!!! he he he

Amy.

Amy, congrats on your new additions!!! Would be great to hear how the redrump turns out as a pet, since they sometimes tend to get a bad rep!

Amy, congrats! I am so happy to see more Aussie Grass Parrots getting good homes. Where do you live? Can you post some pics? I remember Manikay at that age, he had just fledged and was all over the place!

Good for you! I'm very happy to see some action with the grass parakeets. That means I'll have a lot more information available as I start to form my Aussie community! LOL!! Please keep us up to date with Amigo. They really do have a bad reputation here in the U.S. as being extremely aggressive birds. I've never had much of an opportunity to work with them so I can only go by what I read. Same goes for rosellas. I think you will love the Princess of Wales, though. Tiki certainly thinks her two hung the moon! I'm beginning to look for breeders in southern California.

I was very tempted to get a couple Red Rumps at the last bird fair, they are only $25 here. But my AV was there and I asked his opinion and he said they are too agressive to put with my other birds. A real shame because they are stunning birds! My Princesses are real cheeky sweeties, I can never recommend them highly enough!

Hi all,

I can't believe these little guys have such a bad reputation in the U.S. Amigo is such a little sweetie. He's not really into a great deal of cuddles and kisses, and will come to you for affection when he feels like it, unlike my other two who lap it up!!
Amigo does play fight with Matt, but never actually bites, he loves the back of his neck scratched and purrs when Matt's doing it!
I use to work in a pet shop, specialising in birds and reptiles, and we use to keep red rumps in with budgies and we never had an ounce of trouble, yet when it comes to bigger birds (like my Ring neck) he tries to go for him, I think its more the fact that he feels threatened by Caspers size, rather than anything else. But with the young Princess (Motzart) he plays with him, but Motzart has a bit of growing to do yet!!

I'll keep you all posted on how he goes, and I MUST get hold of a digital camera to post some pics for you.

Thanks heaps for the replies!!!

Amy and Bird Co.
