They are delightful. This little man is the one I have in the aviary. Not hand reared, but still quiet enough to get in the aviary with him and his good woman and they don't fly around like crazy. I could have more bourkes, but I just don't have the room. I suppose I could get my husband to build more cages!

Spocky, one of the Bourkecocks and Thira, the Eleganthen, have no fear of us.

The another birds are something charily, but she do not have fear of people and they do not in panik, if I make anything in the aviary.

I hope, you can you husband to convince, that he build for your birds a greater aviary. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Off tropic: Where is Copeton Dam, it is in New South Wales/Australia?

I am always asking for more cages to be built. Sometimes I think I can be a bit of nag! But after 25 years, I think he is used to it. Everytime I see someone elses cages I want more. If I had my way, I would one of everything.

The Off Topic - Yes, it is in NSW Australia. North Western NSW. I actually pinpointed my location on the member map. It is a beautiful piece of paradise, I love living and working here. Everyday is a pleasure. My backyard is a walk in aviary. I counted 22 different types of birds on my bird bath just the other day. I couldn't ask for anything better - only maybe if I lived here and didn't work..............but I have to earn money to feed all my feathered friends...............oh...and....yes....the husband and kids!

Hi meandem,

I apprehend you total ... if I could, as I wanted would have I also still another few more parrots ...

But on the one hand one must have also enough time and also place ..., therefore it must remain until further at 4 Bourkes and 2 Elegants.

It must be very beautiful, the life in a natural environment with so many birds.

An another question, have you see the photos von my Elegants in the another thread?

Yes, they are gorgeous. I used to have Elegants, but I had to move a few years ago (to the place I am now living at), and I had to sell a lot of my birds because I had no where for the birds to live at the time. My husband has slowly built up the aviaries, I am sure he will probably build more and I will end up with another pair of Elegants. We are actually trying to chase a pied pair of Elegants.

Time is certainly precious. It takes me a while to feed and water them. Most of the birds have self feeders in their cages, but I also spend a lot of quality time with them all, and I love to hand feed most of them with their fruit and veges.

Hi -

I have 2 scarlett chested's - they are in an HQ flight cage measuring 32 wide x 35 tall and 21 deep.

I really want a pair of bourkes - do you think I'd have enough room?

Kathy

I had a pair of each in the same cage. They are fine but they have each there own now shared each with a finch pair. They will all go into an Aviary this summer outdoors as they are happiest when they can fly.

Thank you - I talked to the guy I got my female scarlett from and he said it would be fine so I got a pair of rosey bourkes now! They are cute and the male already makes a whistle sound.

I have to trim their feathers though b/c one got out today and I have cats. I should have had the breeder trim them for me. I am afraid to do it b/c I'm not that sure of handling the birds yet.

I know I can find diagrams online of how to do it, I need to do it before I have an accident.

My male scarlett is a bully - he thinks he's the only one who should eat sometimes! I have plenty of food bowls but he likes to chase everyone else away. They are eating though, I think Frootloop will come around.

Now I need names for my bourkes

With the grass parrots I like to take out the grate and put flat trays on the floor for feeding. they love to scratch around on the floor like chickens. In the summer when they are outdoors I put the flat trays down, some millet sprays, some fresh hay seed tops, and dark leafy greens, and scatter fresh hay over all of it. Its great for foraging and they seem to enjoy the natural behavior.

Hi Huntress -

I got the flight cage like you have but on mine, I can't just remove the grate. It would allow a little too much room and possibly allow for an escape. So what I did was take a cookie sheet and try to keep it out of the way of perches and do what you said (I emailed you once a pic of my Frootloop - he's the one who wasn't in real good shape when I got him - I hope you got the pic).

Maybe I can post a pic - they were all sitting on one perch but I realized you can't see my male bourke in the pic very well.

My bourkes have yet to be named, my female scarlett is Sammie and my male is Frootloop.
