I was at a bird fair once, and a lady had about a dozen rosy bourkes and scarlet chested parakeets she had just finished hand feeding.
She was selling them for $40 each! I am now kicking myself that I didn't bring some home.
My mom loves birds too, she is just not into being bitten and is less hands on with birds.
I am sure a pair of bourkes and a pair of scarlets would have been the perfect birds for her.

$40 each is cheap for a scarlet! I paid $50 each for my rosey bourkes, I think they are normally $60 from the guy I deal with. I think 100-125 is average for a scarlet where I live.

Now, my birdies do want to bite me a little - but they are getting better the more they get to know me.

I can't wait until our bird fair, but it's not until late March. I hear it's a good one.

I am being mentored by a local bourke/scarlet breeder so that I can eventually take over her business. I love these Australian birds. They are by far my favorite. The demand is high but there are very few of them. Personally, I think they are the perfect birdy pet for someone who doesn't have the time and money for a large parrot.

I love the wild types the most but I don't know anyone who has any for sale. :(
