They aren't red rumps unless they are a mutation. I thought maybe an elegants mutation. Rosellas are allot bigger. How big are these birds? And rosellas have a light beak. Could be a Splendid mutation of sorts - they have a black beak

It appears to be an Opaline (mutation) Red rump parakeet after all , here is what I found - scroll way down and you will see the same birdie!! So pretty, I want...
Red-rumped Parakeets
and the other poster was right, it is a male with hen in the background

when would they start breeding (what age and what season) in aus?

August to december it should be, we currently have a pair of normal red rumped parrots at my work. Not sure at what age they mature, thinking maybe a year or two. Their average clutch size is 5 (3-7) their incubation period is 21 days and they spend 31 days int he nest...if they're red rumped (which they look to be) they would be about 26cm and weigh about 65g. Female very dull compared to male.

Have to do some more research - Budgies are mature at SIX MONTHS!(in the wild) So I dont think it would be too long.

Thanks, they mature at 12 months but I think it is better for them to let them miss one season before pushing them in. But if you really want to, they mature at 12 months.
