Grasskeet or Austrialn Parrot
about 2 years ago A lady wanted to get rid of her bird. She said it was a grasskeet. I tried to look up on the internet about graskeets, and there was very little information. I am jsut wondering maybe I havae an Australian Parrot. He is green when you look at him. When he spreads his wings they are green blue and yellow, and a very big red back, which you can only see when he extends his wings. His tail is very long, about twice the size of a parakeet. Could it possibly be a grass Parrot? He is agressive, and I have never been to tame him. He is let out of the cage rfor several houors a day. To get hi back in the cage, he flies when you try to handle him, but give him a perch, to climb ion to put him back in the cage, he jumps right up. His name is Skittles, because he is so colorful.

we dont really call them grass keets here, there are many different kinds of grass parrots altho yours sounds a little like an Alexandrine or an IRN.
a pic would be most helpful!

" he has a big red back" she mentioned. That doesnt sound like IRN or Alex and I dont believe those are considered grass parrots either.

There are red rumps.... they are grass keets.... called Red Rump Parrot or Parakeet, *AND* they are known for being aggressive birds... are you sure this bird is aggressive and not afraid?

Parakeet is a conformation word. It generally means "long-tailed". Hence, many conures are even referred to as parakeets! It does not signify breed or even size. Technically, one could make the argument that Macaws are keets... not parrots!
Just thought that might help. What Americans typically call a parakeet are budgerigars... a TYPE or BREED or parakeet! It is like saying that your dog is a shepherd. That could mean anything from an Anatolian to an Aussie!

Thank you for answering my message. I cannot get over the great connections I made. My bird looks just like the second big picture. He is greel head and wings, dark back when he spreads his wings, and a yellow breast., and a long tail. He is a little bit agressive. He chases the tiels around, but has goton pretty friendly, to one of the tiels. They are both males. He chases the other 3 around, but never hurts them, he just flies after them and lands with them. I have put him in the cage with 2 of my friendliest tiels, and he is much happier. He was in his own cage, and would not stop chirping, he is much happier now. Thanks agian for all the replies.
