New Red Rump

I have been going into my local pet store for months now looking at a little plucked parrot. I would always ask about her when I was in there and they kept telling me she wasn't for sale. Today I went in and talked to the owner and she is now my baby. She looks like a baby bird because she is so plucked, they were not sure if her partner did it or if she did it herself. It doesn't matter to me. I think she is beautiful and even if she never regrows her feathers she is still sweet. She is totally wild and I can't get my hand too close to her. I have had birds now for many years but don't know a lot about these ones. I was wondering if there are any red rump owners here who can give me info. I do want to build her trust and hope one day she will be a tame pet. We have lots of time now and I wont push her. she is already calling to my birds and I love the way she sounds.

Aww, congrats! I think you have already taken the first steps to a successful relationship. You rescued her from fear and uncertainty and gave her a second chance, flaws and all. I would love a pair of red rumps, they are so beautiful. Of course, I love all Australian 'keets. :D :D Wish I could give you more advice about taming. I find that with these kinds of birds it's a little bit tougher. My Quaker is much easier to handle. One of my keets lets me handle her a bit but I think only because I nursed her through sickness. I'm sure with patience and love you'll get there!
