Regents cage

I have my Jelly in a double flight.
Double Deluxe Flight Cage 16421D - FREE Shipping

I ordered another cage upgrade that could either go to her, my CAG or my Alexandrine.
Chapel cage for medium and large birds

The new cage will go in front of a wall size window with view of birds and squirels feeding. When I am home she is seldom in her cage. I only need to be in the office 18 hrs a week and am a homebody so she doesn't spend much time in her cage. When she does she mostly looks out the window. The new cage is 24 inches deep and has more height interior as well. Her current cage is 64" wide and only 21" deep and doesn't have the interior height. There is a bar going across the middle of the cage for a divider that gets in the way if she wants to romp around and the bottom grate can't be taken out because the trays are plastic.

Do you think the new cage is better for her? I want to make her an indoor aviary someday. Her cage requirements should be very similar to Princess Parrots so I'd like to hear what cages people use for them. I think an aviary would be best but she is out and about almost all the time.

OK.. nevermind, barspacing too great in one of them. I forget she can't have more than 1/2 inch because she's such a big bird.

Our alexandrine has this cage and it has one inch bar spacing. We have no problems with it. Also, I don't now about your windows but mine are really drafty and I wouldn't place a cage in front of them.

yes I will put my Alexandrine Jazz in that cage. Jelly (my regents) will stay in the double flight. I'm afraid she's shaped like a Hershy's kiss with a really long tail. She could probably fit her head between 3/4 " spacing!
I have plastic over the windows and I'm on the north side of a mountain so very little wind. The cages are several inches from the windows. thanks!

How much does she weigh???

I figured that a cage with 3/4" bar spacing would be fine as I thought that Regents were on the larger size of small birds (like indian ringneck size, give or take).

she's almost 4.5 ounces. She's a big bird with a little head. All the websites said 1/2". Since that's the size of her double flight I will stick with that for now. I'm going to look into building an indoor aviary for her, my linnies and finches for her next cage. I have an alexandrine and she is much stockier, bigger head. Most of the large cages that would accomodate a regents have bar spacing too great. She actually rolled over 360 on her back right back onto her feet yesterday! She was playing wildly and lost control! She is very hyper so she needs lots of room. Here's a picture of her in my Christmas tree.

Weighing in oz is not very accurate... 4.5 oz is 127 grams. 130 grams is 4.5 oz as well.

I've seen Princess Parrots, and they were slightly bigger than cockatiels. Judging by this I would figure that a Polytelis Parrot could do well in a cage up to 3/4" spacing. Green cheeks which are 60-80 grams, some do just fine in cages with 3/4" bar spacing.

Granted, the double flight cages are great! And if your going to build an aviary, that would be lovely! Do you plan on housing her with the linnies and finches? Or separately. I wouldn't really know the compatibility of those 3 species together.

She sounds like a complete goof and a joy!!!

can't resist the whole story.. I had 3 finches for 5 years. I bought them a double flight because they never got let out and I love to watch them flit around. The double flight looked empty so I got a lineolated parakeet. He was a little bossy with the finches so I bought another flight. The finch flight looked empty again so I got the regents. She (Jelly) was great with the finches, they even ate out of the same dish! But she needed much bigger perches, differerent food, etc. She and my linnie (Pete) got along great so they shared a cage. My linnie was still lonely.. so I got another linnie, she (Kara)was great with the finches and taught my first linnie Pete good birdy manners. Now Pete and Kara live in one double flight with the finches. Jelly lives in a double flight kitty cornered to the other one. I have a big stand in the middle and a rope net above on the beams on the cathedral ceiling. When I open the cage doors it's like musical chairs. Amazingly the finches just go from one cage to the next, on the stand or on the net! At the end of the day, I close the cage doors and they sleep where ever they be.. Usually Jelly is alone, tonight the owl finch is in there with her, and Pete and Kara are with the 2 cordon blues..
