You may not be aware of this, but there are organizations who fund ferral cat spay programs and then RELEASE the neutered cats into the wild again! My niece [vet tech]assists in these surgeries. They don't give a crap about the wildlife being killed. They think this is a viable solution.#$%#$%^

I've never heard of such an organization but I'm sure there are some out there. If you really like the idea of cats being killed why don't you get a job at the Humane Society and assist with the euthanasia of 100's a year.

I don't kill cats!I make the hour drive to the Humane Society and pay 20 dollars for each surrendered cat[as previously stated].It's the people perpetuating this problem that I'm angry with.If they can go to the trouble of catching and spaying then why not rehab and placement in homes. The guy in the article was protecting baby birds not getting his jollies. He doesn't deserve to sit in jail for that.

There should be more laws in place owning pets. There has been many a time I have wanted to kill my neighbours cats, they come to our yard, poo in our yard, and almost every night come behind my room and fight. I wish we had our Galah still, she used to scare the cats away. If you have a cat keep the thing inside. Taken from a Aussie site.
"Each Australian pet cat, if allowed to wander, has been estimated by some sources to kill an average of 16 mammals, 8 birds and 8 reptiles per year. The diet of Australia’s unrestrained cats has been recorded as including 186 bird species, 64 mammals, 86 reptiles 10 amphibians/invertebrates – that’s 347 different native wildlife species. " KEEP THEM INSIDE OR DON'T KEEP THEM AT ALL!!!

the reasoning behind spay/neuter and release programs for feral cats is that since cats are territorial if they take cats from an area and put them to sleep then other cats will just move in and start breeding, but if they take the cats and spay/neuter them and put them back then they will defend the territory and stop other feral cats moving in and breeding in their place,so keeping the numbers down, sounds like a good idea to me,better that having having a constant cycle of feral cats breeding and being put to sleep.

I actually had a problem with my neighbor who began feeding a pregnant female cat that roamed the neighborhood. As you would have guessed, within a couple years the population of feral cats in my subdivision exploded from 0 cats to at least 50. People politely asked her to stop, and she stubbornly refused and kept feeding them all. She kept insisting that the cats only ate the food she left out for them.
I knew this was complete BS as I kept finding mutilated birds, mice, frogs, chipmunks and snakes in my backyard, not to mention the countless cat turds. I had noticed that the baltimore oriole who visited my yard every summer did not show up. Then one day while I was doing some yardwork I had found some black and orange feathers scattered in my garden. Upon further inspection I found in the bushes the rest of the remains of this bird I had grown attached to over the years. That was it for me. Myself and some neighbors contacted the WI humane society and explained the situation. Some of the employees came out and set up traps. We think they told her not to feed the cats anymore, because she wouldn't talk to any of us for 6 months, lol. No sweat off my back. The good news is that ever since they trapped and fixed the cats, the feral cat population around here has waned dramatically, and birds have began coming back to our backyards. To wrap this up I want to say that while I don't support the killing of these cats, I do support, the whole "trap, fix, release" strategy because it actually works. And cat owners really need to take responsibilty for their cats, and for the sake of their pets and other animals KEEP THEM INDOORS! |

Trapping, fixing and releasing them doesnt help anything because they still hunt and kill anything small enough to for them to catch not to mention the high risk of a rabid cat biting a kid.
if they have a collar then take them to the pound and call the owner if not then get rid of them for good
