Why Pet Birds Need Real Food!

#1 Killer - Seed Only Starvation Despite "Total" Diet Claims
Reproduction permission of www.CrazyCorn.com

1. Budgies have been known to live 25 years in the wild, 7-10 in our cages, dying from illness secondary to slow starvation.
2. Seed is a carbohydrate almost devoid of nutrients, often fatty. Okay to 25% of diet (to work for food: relieve boredom).
3. HIDDEN MALNUTRITION...birds will pretend to eat the day before they die to fool predators.
4. Per ASSN. of Am. Feed Control Officials, “It is deceptive and misleading to make total diet claims for avians other than poultry.”

BEST DIET

Dr. Raymond Cray's model R B & C mid 1980's RICE BEAN CORN including
A NATURAL BROAD LOWFAT DIET of real food emphasizing high vitamin A rich foods & calcium.
For Example: Sprouts. Dark leafy greens, yams, broccoli. Red & orange veggies/fruits: peppers, carrots, papaya. Whole grains, pasta, brown rice. PROTEINS: lean meat, poultry, well-cooked eggs, soy tofu-increase when moulting. Crazy Corn's 50 Irresis-Table Foods; a few nuts-more for macaws
We trust clients to make informed quality nutrition choices. It's easy as birds eat everything, but DO NOT feed avocado, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol. Avoid milk products or limit to small amt yogurt, & lowfat cheese. SEED OPTlONAL if desired by birds.

ABOUT PELLETS

When first introduced, breeding production plummeted and there were problems including black feathers, hypervitaminosis A (hardening of liver) and deaths, lawsuits.
Can ONE combination of ingredients supply all necessary nutrients? Mother Nature offers 1000's of phytochemicals (plant chemicals).4000 so far identified, whereas PELLETS TYPICALLY ARE ONLY 2 OR 3 GRAINS, sucrose or other sugar, vits, preservative (i.e.ethoxyquin), artificial dyes, flavorings.
PET BIRDS MAY HAVE DIFFERING NUTRITIONAL NEEDS because they're ALL DIFFERENT SPECIES (Unlike dogs-all canines or cats-all felines). They forage for varying diets worldwide which we can't reproduce commercially. Plus their needs may vary seasonally. Total diet claims are NOTsubstantiated for any pet bird type per AAFCO

PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS: BIRDS PREFER MOIST SOFT FOODS

1. OBSERVE! ALL hard foods go into the water to make birdee soup.
Dry pellets shaved into birds’ mouth are like sawdust with possible aspiration danger.
2. “MY BIRDS WON’T EAT PELLETS.” We’ve received 10’s of 1000’s of such reports. Is typicalinstinctual refusal due to “Bad Birds?” TRUST IN NATURE!
3. Birds have the best sight in the animal kingdom to see ripe fruit colors. They fly to & relish varied diets. OBSERVE THEIR PLEASURE WHEN EATING SOFT FOODS. Pinning eyes & pleasure sounds. Caged birds are dependent on us for a nurturing environment including diet.
4 .Unlike Crazy Corn, the OTHER ingredient on all pellet labels: INSTRUCTIONS on trying to coerce birds to eat it. Unless weaned to pellets, will not recognize it as food.

IN STORE EDUCATION : LET'S ALL HELP!

Each bird needs to be fed and sent home with soft foods, plus an educated owner.
Personally Judee Kleinman, owner of Crazy Corn, wants stores to feed properly, and won’t use bird products labeled “complete”. Her dream is to cure hunger, starting in pet stores. When she entered 3 of her birds in a bird show in L.A., all took awards, & the judge bought Crazy Corn. On 3/5/00 Judee was a guest on KRLA radio with her amazing talking nape KIWI. The avian vet host said KIWI was “one of the best looking Amazon parrots I have seen, a great example of a parrot with very smooth, almost oily looking feathers, but they are very smooth.”
KIWI’s DIET IS REAL FOOD including Crazy Corn - no seed, no pellets.
