Unhappy Savage attack kills 32 exotic birds (News Article) Very sad Story

Here’s an article I found that shocked and disgust me. I cried when I read this and I’m a true bird lover, I never heard anything so cruel before. I will send a link on the article and the little video too, bird lovers be warned, there are graphic images.

Savage attack kills 32 exotic birds

Thu, 06 Aug 2009 6:29p.m.
Pupils from Temuka primary school had a tough lesson in life and death this morning.

An overnight intruder killed 32 parrots, galahs and other exotic birds at the town's popular aviary.

Timaru Bird Club Vice-President Pat Rule has being looking after birds for 42 years. He is devastated by the slaughter.

“When I got here it was just like a battlefield. There was birds all over the place and they were mutilated. The necks were wrung off. They were trodden on. Their guts were hanging out. It was a disaster.”

Only 20 birds survived the attack.

While Willie and the other talking parrots have now been silenced, there's every chance they would have gone down fighting.

Mr Rule explained: “These birds when they're frightened, they've got claws and beaks and the person who killed all these birds, there's 32 of them…would have a few scratches and claw marks on ‘em. So we are looking for that person.”

And when they are caught the offender or offenders are unlikely to get much sympathy.

Mr Rule said: “We hope to get an arrest soon and we don't want him to have community service we want him to be strung up.”

Other residents are more concerned about the barbaric nature of the attack.

Local man Charles Solomon-Rehi said: “Look, if they can do that to innocent birds like that you know, I mean what can they do to human beings? I mean if they've got that much hatred and bloody venom in the heart I mean you know, bloody what would they do to bloody people? They need to be caught.”

The police share those concerns and are treating it as a serious offence.

I googled the information on this story after that other posting. I was so depressed about it. What does it take to kill a bird for pete's sake? nothing. It is so depraved. The cover story had a bare eyed and I just wanted to gag thinking about my little one feeling that type of fear and pain. I feel so bad for the other birds that lived for what they saw and what they must have endured.

A few years ago this type of thing happened on an island with Marine Iguanas - highly endangered gentle animals. They got almost all the breeding pairs in a recovery program in a vicious, vicious attack.

What kills me about this bird story is that the "friendly talking bird" everyone refers to was a replacement from a criminal ordered to do so after he shot a bird there about a year ago...really? a fee? that's it? when is law enforcement going to realize this is A PATTERN OF BEHAVIOR??????????? It is not a trivial thing - far from it. It is often a sign of a checkered past and a lethal future.

That's horrible it reminds me of a woman who used to breed birds she had two emu's and one day she went outside to find one dead while a neighbor told her theyd seen a bunch of kids tie it up around the neck and drag it around behind a car until it died. It was disgusting how absolutley heartless people can be.
