Question looking for hyacinth macaw breeder

Hello I am currently looking for a hyacinth macaw breeder that is close to my area anyone in delaware, pennsylvaina, maryland, virginia, new jersey, ohio or west virginia. I need a breeder that won't charger outrageous prices for there hyacinth macaws. I'm looking to spend like $6000.00 to $7000.00 for one. I know there are places that sell them for $5000.00 unweaned. I do not want to buy an unweaned baby. Any age is fine with us just has to be weaned. If anyone can help us please let us know.

thanks
wendy

Frankly, you're probably not gonna hit that price range on the east coast. Bergers Aviary in Maryland has breeding Hys, not sure if they have any babies currently, however. Anyone even considering purchasing an unweaned baby Hy has totally lost their mind and any breeder selling unweaned baby Hys should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They are endangered, difficult to handfeed and it can take as long as a year to do it.

I think you might want to check out Sharon and Lee Kirscht's Timber Creek Aviary. She is one of our macaw experts here at Birdboard. She is located in New Jersey. I'll see if I can find the contact into.

Hi,

Have you considered adopting and older HY? You may be pleasantly surprised at the price and quality of bird you can get. We have several Hy's that are rehomes and they are outstanding birds. Good luck with your quest for a Hyacinth.

Here's a Pa breeder, higher than your stated price, but you arent going to find a 7k hyacinth in these parts...

Just wanted to add... not sure what your experience level with large parrots is but think carefully about owning a hyacinth. They require tons of attention and an very large cage/play area. They arent for novices.

So,
With an eye to the semi-distant future (5+ years from now); Where can Hyacinths be found that are re-homes? What is a reasonable price for a new one? It seems like it might be advantageous to just buy a plane ticket to wherever one is and bring it home.

Does anyone know where re-homes can be found?

I found 2 in our local newspaper and have seen them on the Avianbiotec website under classifieds. Rehomed birds are a great way to go.............

I'd have to say there's a real big soft spot here for the rehomes.
