Leg Band - BBF

I'm attempting to track down the breeder/aviary of my blue fronted amazon.

Purchased her from PetCo 4 years ago. Have reason to believe she's much older than PetCo said. Need to find the aviary she came from.

The leg band says BBF on it. Any ideas?

Robert

Is there a state abbreviation on the band? That might help with your search...

Did you try contacting the store you got her from and see if they will tell you?

Don't see a state abbreviation.

Ive contacted that PetCo but as I found out after the fact - a lot of the Petco folks didn't really know what they were doing.

I'm glad I rescued her from that place, but she's supposed to be 6 years old this year - but I've got a suspicion she's older than that.

Any help is continually appreciated! Thank you!
Robert

I'm trying to see what I can find on google. What sort of area did you get her from? I found a club Baltimore Bird Fanciers BBF, but I dont really think that would have much to do with it *keeps looking*

I found a post of someone looking for the breeder of an amazon with the initials BBF on the band, but it had a code for texas, someone replied with a list of breeders in texas, only one Bugg's Bird Farm seems to hhave the initials BBF. Dont know if that helps at all. *shrugs*

There are also several birds for sale here : http://www.babybirds.com/forsale4.html by an avary BBF, Baby bird feeders, in CA. I give up for now. I may have another look later.

Ask Petco what breeders they use- each petco uses sort of a mass breeder, not a bunch of small backyard breeders- that way they are always garuanteed to get birds. (Did you know their budgies come from Kaytee....?) Anyways- got talk to the manager, or whoever is in charge of ordering the birds, and hopefully you can contact the breeder that way.

I called PetCo's corporate office to find out the same thing for my lovebird. They had the purchasing agent return my call and he looked up the purchase order for her using the band number. She was about 6 months older than what we were told, and was also a girl instead of the boy they sold us. If you go on the website you can find their number and tell them what you're looking for.

Thanks!

Thank you all. I'll try the corporate office and see what they have to say.

I appreciate your time!

Generally, the leg band has the birth year on it and very frequently written in side way.

I don't know where you are located, not the PetCo you got her from but there is a BBF in the legband registry we use is The Baby Bird Farm in Rockford, IL http://users3.ev1.net/~bjmonkeyandcj..._Bird_Farm.htm
Might be worth contacting them to see if they have record of your fid. Usually bands will have the abbreviation for the state, year and sometimes the # of the chick hatched that year. Other times, just the abbreviation and a number of chick hatched. Good luck!
