Tracing a leg band?

Hello!

I have recently got my first parrot, a Nanday Conure! I am interested in where he came from. I am located in St. Catharines (Niagara region), Ontario, Canada.

His band reads:

AAC 227 03 S

I was told he us 5 years old, so I assume that would explain the 03? Anyone know what AAC stands for, 227, or the S?

I also read in another post someone mention the Canadian Aviculture? What is this and could they trace this or have it registerd?

Thanks for the help!

Colen

I just read this on another site:

"In the year 2000, the AAC put a maple leaf logo in place of the AAC on the band. These bands can be traced back to the breeder by contacting your local bird breeding club and asking the ring secretary to help you."

Site doesnt state what AAC stands for? Also if this Nanday must not have been hatched in 2003 as there is no leaf? I am a little confused? Any help would be appreciated!

Interesting Question

Hi,
I was in the same boat a while back. We aquired 2 powder blue Indian Ringnecks, complete with bands. I was curious and started searching online. I Googled a lot and linked to lots of sites. I finally found the hatchery our birds came from...in HAWAII! I called and spoke with a great man who verified that our birds were indeed hatched at their facility. Can you imagine, we rescued birds that were hatched in Hawaii. How they got to PA is a mystery!
