breeding lovebirds

Can anyone help me out here. I am trying to get my lovebirds to breed. I put a nest box on the cage, its been there for about 2 wks now. How long does it take for them to explore it? is there anything else I can do. I am going to do the same for my parrotlet pair, but have not yet. thanks

First of all, of course, you must be certain you have a true male and female. They're next to impossible to sex just by looking at them. When I bred lovebirds, they were interested in the nestbox almost immediately. So that's why I'm guessing you may have two males.

So you don't waste your time (and theirs), it might be a good idea to get them DNA sexed. Here's one link where you can get it done: Avian Services Center: DNA sexing and disease testing for all species of birds.

breeding lovebirds

supposedly they are dna sexed male and female. I just got them a couple weeks ago, maybe they need time to adjust to there surroundings. Plus they meet all the criteria that is shown to determine male and female, even though I know that is not 100% I will probably have them sexed anyway, but they shoud be male and female. And I swear I just saw the one feeding the other just a little bit ago. I know someone was in the box at some point, cause there is a piece of hay in there, that I did not put in there lol. I am new to this so not sure what to watch for or anything. I am trying to read all info I can find, just doesnt answer everything. thanks for the reply

Well then just relax and see what happens. They may just not be as fast as you'd like them to be!

And Parrotlets normally need more than one pair to breed. So record another pair from someone and play it in their room. They cant see the other pair or they will threaten each other and not breed.

so just get a recording of another pair of parrotlets and let them listen to it? ok sounds wierd, but ok lol. What if I just record them one day? woul that work? all my birds are in the same room, my dining room lol, but I don't have any dividers besides one between my tiel cage and the lovebird cage, cause they are right next to each other. On the table is the parrotlets and in the other corner is my green cheek boy. Do they need to not see any of the other birds? this is why I ask, because some of this info I can't find, that is why I am glad to have these message boards lol. thanks

look at
TPR - Article - Breeding Parrotlets
Parrotlets: Introduction to the Care and Breeding
Parrotlet Park
I have always been told they can tell if it is them or not. I was given this information after I bought more pairs. Buying more pairs did get my pair to breed though.

I thought this thread was about lovebirds, not parrotlets. Do I need another cup of coffee?

I don't think you need to add a tape of lovebirds in order to get yours to breed. They will breed. A bigger problem would be getting them to stop breeding.

does it really matter what the thread was about, I said something about my parrotlets too, and someone gave me advice. You seem to have a attitude, stay off my threads if you do, get the chip off your shoulder please.

Jack thanks for the information. I appreciate it:)
