Oh,
I was supposed to have a baby Timneh six months of age. I still think I have a young Timneh since the eyes haven't turned bright yet - just about though. The breeder must have given me a leg band from long time ago before the bird was even born. The thing that makes me wonder is that his eyes are more bright than my females (she is seven months old now and still has brownish yellowish eyes.) Him being the same age are far more yellow (so I was told). I will try and get some information from the breeder. Thank you for your reply. Thank you |

Hello,
My wife and I being breeders and also banding out birds I would like to try and explain how to read a leg band example : LPP or 06 012 LPP = the aviary name ie: Little Parrot People or = the state in which the bird was hatched 06 = the year that the bird was hatched 012 = the 12th bird hatched for that year Hope that this might help you to understand the leg band that you have. |

Hello,
I just emailed the breeder and from what she said was the 90 is a 06 which means my Timneh is from last year. I was obviously looking at the band the wrong way. 130H is the breeders license. The 03 was actually a CO upside down (was hard to see) which means Colorado and the 010 is the number. I was right with the leg band size. When they had sent the breeders leg bands and she saw that they were to small she figured that by the time she got the right size it would be to late so she never bothered. I guess everything is alright. Sorry for causing worries over nothing. Thanks Insa |

Don't take that info as writen in stone law. If you look at bands on smaller birds, some have very little. My Quaker had "xxxx PSM" on it, and thats all. I did trace it to a specific 'Pet Supply/Store' franchise, but could get nothing more out of it. I was trying hard, because our Quaker flew in our buildings 9th floor fire-escape, and wanted too try to locate the owner. He was young at the time [estimated only about 5 months old by our vet]. Never did find the owner [4-1/2 years ago]. Wally
