go to Avian Services Center: DNA sexing and disease testing for all species of birds. and get the order form, it cost $19.50, plus shipping, you can register with them, and find out online what you have. All you have to do is clip a nail a little short to get some blood, put about the size of a pencil eraser on a paper towel, let it dry, put it in a zip lock baggie, fill out the form and overnight it for quickest results, or just mail it. All you have to do is stop the bleeding with a little flour, cornstarch, or styptic powder. Its no big deal, it doesn't hurt the bird and its accurate. Or pull a feather and send it in, though I know you said you didn't want to :) or have a vet do it, but that will cost alot more. I do it for all my birds, and its really no big deal. good luck

If you are local I could help you out.

Just clip the tip. if you dont get blood... clip a bit more... just until you get blood. Make sure you have some quick stop on hand to stop it when your done. Avian Boitech will send you blood cards for free - from the website. Blood cards from them are safer than paper towel as the come steril. Paper towel can have DNA skin cells from you and all the different ppl who work at the factory plus other contaminants that can mess up a test. Order the blood card and wait for it to come. While your waiting those few days go out and get some Quick stop at the pet store. Dont use styptic pencil - it burns. Make sure to fill out the blood card BEFORE you take the sample. I use gloves while doing this and change gloves between birds. Its REAL easy to mix DNA with an almost invisible amount of blood.

I just took matches to a breeder on saturday to get DNA'd. She pricked the toe and took a little swab, cost me about $17. Matches was really good and didnt struggle at all. Stopped bleeding in about a minute and acted like it didnt even happen...i get the results in about 2 weeks.

Cool thing at Avian Bio is you can get the results online only three days after it gets there.
