question for breeders, just curious

I see that a lot of you breed fids. It may be a dumb question, but I have always wondered, especially with the larger more expensive fids. what do you do with the fids that you can't sell or do you always have homes lined up for them? Is it a common problem to find good homes for your chicks. Is there a time frame that the chicks need to be sold in before they are hard to rehome? I have just been curious of this.

Well I guess for most it depends on the species and you location. For instance...two years ago Tiels were all the rage and my friend sold many but this last year she sold more than half of her pairs to someone in another state as they just were not as popular. I myself breed only in tiny numbers and the only thing I have trouble with is Green female parrotlets but if I sell one or two of them to the pet store at wholesale (1/2) and they she seems to have them sold in about two days for MORE than I would have,LOL. But I wait until they are at least six months old before I offer them to her. I only have a few unusual species and one pair of "different" color lovebirds. My friend cannot keep an afican grey baby - they are usually sold as soon as they are laid.
As Courtzrocks will tell you , you most probably could be richer than rich if you sold Macaws in Australia,LOL!!! where a Greenwing can fetch you around $6000.00!!!!

I have been raising birds for 7 yrs. I haven't had a problem finding homes, and I can be a little picky. I don't think larger birds are good first birds unless they can show me they have done extensive research. BUT I don't raise a larger quantity
of babies. All my larger birds I have a waiting list for.
I only raise so many tiels at one time so I don't have a overflow of them.
I would be considered a 'hobby' breeder, where I don't have numerous pairs of one species of bird.
Honestly if I could not find a home, they would stay with me, that is not a problem! LOL
