Cockatiels mating
Well my two cockatiels have been going at it for the past three days now. They are actually in the process of mating as I type this. Now my question is, how do I know if she is pregnant? Or will I just find eggs one day. What are the possibilities she won't lay any eggs. I am really interested in getting a nest box to allow her to lay eggs. I have plenty of time to raise the hatchlings when the do hatch and think it would be a great experience. I have done plenty of research and I am still researching everything I can everyday about it. They have mated 3 times in a row, does that mean he is not fertilizing the eggs or this is what they normally do? It last about 10 mins and then they stop. She usually preens herself when they are done. I was thinking about putting the nest box where the openings are for the food dishes. It is about 8-10 inches off of the bottom of the cage. Is that an alright spot? I am going to get the nestbox from petsmart that is made for cockatiels. It has like a cork or something bottom instead of just wood. What should I place inside the nest box? Substrate, food, water?
I have been feeding her a variety of different foods like egg, broccoli, carrot, and a few other fresh foods. What do you suggest I feed her more of to prepare her to feed her babies?
