Dawn

A bird shop I visit uses that hand sanitizer. They have people use that before allowing anyone handle their birds. As far as their feet can you have them remove their shoes before entering the area where your birds are kept?

I would rather them keep there shoes on, cause the birds are in my kitchen, they have to go through the house and I don't want them to feel wierd about taking off there shoes. I do have this stuff PET FOCUS CONCENTRATE - ONE GALLON - SALE ITEMS by Bird Paradise

maybe we can spray that on there shoes, then use the sanitizer for there hands? thanks

this is why i do not allow people to come over to our place, no way. i get people all the time wanting to come over to look at all the birds, but the answer is always the same, NO, lol. we will meet them at their place or at a mutual meeting spot. i ask them to either wash hands or sanitize with antibacterial hand sanitizer. this doesnt mean ALL the germs will be killed, but it does help reduce the risk of disease transmission.

yeah, but how are they supposed to pick out the bird they want? you can't take the babies outdoors yet, they are too young

if they are local and wanna choose one in person, then we put the babies in a baby bin and take them out that way.

so then let me ask you, what is the difference if you let them come over and spray there shoes and wash there hands, or if you go to there place? would they not have the same germs either way? I am just curious

they could, but its easier and less risky to just take the 2-3 babies at a time (usually we meet outside, so germs arent stuck in a room), rather than expose the whole flock to the strangers. at least we could wash our clothes and shower and disinfect their baby bin when we get back home. not only that, but i dont feel comfortable with everyone knowing where we live, it greatly reduces the chances of theft too.

true on the theft part. only bad part is right now its too cold yet to take the babies outside so they can see them. I will have to remember the bringing it to them, but if they are local, gas prices are so crazy, I don't want to travel too far, let them waste there gas lol

hehe, every once in a while we do go to people's houses. a few days ago i took this sennie baby to his future home to hang out with his future family for a little while. its great cause i get to actaully see where they are going, but most times i just meet customers halfway. if its cold, or the babies are learning to fly, then we do the meetings inside one of our cars, lol. im just really paranoid about breakins and thieves, especially considering the dozens of birds worth thousands of dollars that have been stolen from private breeders and bird shops lately. id rather spend the money on gas rather than risk loosing everything to a thief or some weird disease brought in by someone else.
