international air travel

Hi, i was just reading the thread about shipping birds and I was wondering if anyone had ever had a bird shipped internationally for any reason? Does any one know what kind of regulations apply? I assume there is a isolation period similar to those used for dogs and cats? It may be the only option I have for finding my white ear a companion as no seems to breed his sub species in the US. It also makes me wonder where the lady who was owned by him before me found him. I would really apperciate any suggestions.
