I have one pair of Timnehs, otherwise the rest are Congos. Same breeding habits though!

Ah, Xaf's mom- thanks for replying. How old were your timnehs when they started breeding for you? I had one pair for over 10 years before they produced a baby.

Lessee... both of my TAG pairs are between 6 and 10, bonded when I got them, never laid prior. I've had them approx 3 months and both sets are on fertile eggs.

What type of set up are yours in? Size cage? Area around the birds? Are they hand raised or parent? There's a few tricks to Greys and breeding.

To be truthful I didn't have them set up for breeding that whole time, for awhile I had both pairs together in a big flight cage and just let them socialize with each other until one of the hens had a toenail bitten off by the male of the other pair- then I separated them and set up one pair for breeding.
They are all imported (wild-caught) birds. I know I don't have the ideal conditions for breeding them but I consider them more like family than breeders. Now I mainly let them breed because it gives them something to do and they seem happier, plus I get the added fun of having a few babies here and there.
They are in a room with lots of windows and light, the cages are fairly large (I'd have to go home and measure to tell you for sure but I believe they are around 2'x3'x4' for one and the other is even bigger). There's about a foot and a half between the cages of the greys and more between them and my other birds, (Senegals, Parrotlets and a grumpy cherry head conure). I realize during the breeding season they would do better if they couldn't see each other but I also believe they like socializing with each other and don't want to deprive them of this.
What is your set-up like? I'm surprised you have them sitting on fertile eggs after just 3 months of adjustment.
I really love my greys and just want them to be happy. Really, in all honesty if there was a way to reintroduce them to the free world they were captured from and let them live their lives in freedom I would do that. My views have changed greatly from years ago when I first got them.
Thanks for chatting with me.

Oops, correction above. I meant my CAG pairs. Hmm ok, the cages aren't a bad size for breeding greys, they like smaller cages for breeding. The 2' isn't my thing, my minimum is 3'. My greys are actually in 4x4x6' cages, and I wrap half of the cage (the side with the nestbox and feeding station) in black garden cloth to give them more security. Grey's breed a lot better when in a 'dimly lit' environment that's quiet. Since I don't want to closet my birds, I wrap the cages partway. My birds can choose to stand in the unwrapped portion if they wish, but they will breed due to the wrapped end. It gives them a sense of visual security.

I would move the greys apart more, or put up a visual barrier from your other birds, especially other greys. If not breeding, grey's are happy to socialise with other greys, but for breeding, they don't want to see them. Hearing is fine, seeing; no good.

Lastly, they dislike breeding close to loud New World birds, though, some do eventually adapt.

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate your input. Mine seem to have adapted to their current situation and since they are breeding for me I will probably leave things as they are, I was just curious to see what others are doing.
Hope you are having a great day!
