Question on breeder

I am looking at getting a YS GCC from a particular local breeder... I want to post the name and ask if anybody has any experience with her, but is there an unwritten rule that it's not nice to do that?

She seems very knowledgeable, and has been very helpful with my plethora of questions - and she only wants $150 for the YS GCC. The only thing that somewhat discourages me is that when I asked about flight suit training she said she just doesn't have the time??? Should I take that as a warning or is that normal?

Some breeders will do that, some will not. It sounds like your breeder isn't one that will. That doesn't mean she does not have nice, well socialized babies though. If you're happy on that score, well socialized and weaned to a variety of healthy foods, it's up to you whether you want to tackle the flight suit training. It does take time, so I'm not too surprised that many breeders don't do it.

That's what I figured, and I decided i'm going to go ahead and get the baby this summer so I can have an extra month and a half to train it before school starts this fall. I think the price is excellent - all the other breeders around here want about twice that.

Also, can I ask people on here if they've dealt with this breeder, just for personal experience? or is that a no no?

Most of my birds are rehomes, but I have used to seperate breeders for my conures and neither one of them flight/harness trained. I am working on that with my 2 Suns and Nanday and it is tough.

I know I have been asked before by people if I would train a baby they would be getting from me and I tell them no... Harnesses / Flight Suits mess up feathers to a degree so I do not want to be having anyone say or complain about messed up feathers. This does not mean that the breeder is not good or anything and that would take a bit of extra doing on her part.

Look at the parent birds and how they are living. That will tell you if it is a good breeder.

Ask for recommendations... call and ask what other peoples experiences have been with that breeder.
Personally, you get what you pay for, if you really want a harnessed trained bird I would suggest paying a bit more to buy from a breeder that has time to work with the baby.

I know if I was told that a breeder that I was looking at buying from didnt have the time I would mention that I dont have the time to pay them then either. And would keep shopping, there are lots of greencheek breeders with better customer service.

Just a quick note....Not all breeders who claim to harness train their birds actually do. I don't know if the same is true for flight suits.
