My avairy

I thourght i will share my avairy with you.

My avairy is a self made finch avairy
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...5/IMG_0104.jpg

It has 2 sections of cement and one section of dirt and alot of plants
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...5/IMG_0114.jpg

We breed a few differn't types of finches in this avairy we also try to breed quails but have had no luck

Our Finches:
-Diamond Sparrow
-Star finches
-Double Bars

and our most succesful finch we have been able to breed

Gouldian Finch
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...5/IMG_0105.jpg
that is Mr gouldian finch checking on his babies

They have 2 feeding stations as well as a dish of seed on the ground

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...5/IMG_0116.jpg

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...5/IMG_0117.jpg

We have plenty of nesting boxes around but it seems the stars rather build there own nests

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...5/IMG_0111.jpg

And to keep all our finches happy we give them grass seeds everyday
Where do you get all those grass seeds from i hear you ask?
well i grow them my self, not hard to look after as they are a weed but dad doesn't mind as they are growing in the garden nothing else will grow in.

While i was taking all these photos one of our other Feathered friends decided to come over

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...5/IMG_0109.jpg

its not a very good shot as he saw me in the cage and was about to fly away this is a Pigeon nothing to exciting but he has been coming to pur house for 3 years every morning and afternoon to get the left over bird seeds that have fallen out of the avairy.

Now this should go in the bird watching topic but i thourght i might put him here as well. He might be a bit hard to see but he is there right in the middle.

We have 2 torny frog mouth owls that live in our backyard they bred every year, then raise there babys till they are old enough to do all the thing they need to, to survive then the babies will leave i don't know where they go but the parents all ways seem to stay. I could only find one of the parent owls if i find the whole family i will make sure i get a shot of them.

Great! You really know your stuff. Fantastic job on the aviaries, plenty of dried brush for nesting, plenty of nest boxes, plenty of fresh greens and grass seeds. Well done!
Have your diamond sparrows ever bred before? I know they are supposed to be difficult, plus they build these enormous nests.

No the diamonds havn't bred before but we only got them this year and the nest they built is falling out the top of the box. I think they have 1 egg now so we are hoping that it will hatch as this will be our first diamond baby :)

Pending the answer back to Tabooh - I'd say this is a true birdie paradise. Lucky, lucky little finches!

Well we try to clean the main area when ever there arn't ever babies so we gotta be fast as the gouldians have a ton of babies! They just wont stop.

And how we clean it is, we gather all the birds and put them in this big bird cage then we can keep the doors open and we can pressure blast the ground and we can just sweep out all the seed, and the birds wont be to scared

I'd imagine the finches wouldn't spend too much time on the floor, so it's probably not such a big deal

wow that is amazing. How on earth do you catch all your finches? I have trouble catching my canaries in double flights, nevermind an aviary! What lucky lucky birds!
