Kevin:

Pigeon Forge is wonderful! You can go indoor skydiving, hang out at NASCAR and drive racing go karts. There is every kind of ride and attraction imaginable. The people are polite and glad you came, the food is excellent, the rivers and streams right out of National Geographic. At the top of the Smokies is an old settlement called Cades Cove. Its the oldest settlement in that part of the world. Descendents of the original settlers still live there today. Its so beautiful that Will has asked me to spread his ashes there when he dies.

We went one spring when the wild deer were migrating. I literally saw HUNDREDS of them in the fields. It was like something out of an African safari movie. I had no idea how many deer there were. Its a protected state park, so they are very comfortable with humans.

By May, the temps are pretty much in the 70s and 80s on a daily basis. You can hit rainy season, but its showers and not days on end.

If you drive another 11 miles to the east, you come to Gatlinburg. Its like a ski resort/honeymoon haven in the mountains. Great shops and attractions, and tons of chalets tucked into the side of the mountains. There is a tram that runs between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge all day long, so you can park once you're there.

The best part is that its very safe. I wish I could say the same for Florida, but that's simply not the case anymore. You will be greeted with southern hospitality and respect. They appreciate their tourists. Its their bread and butter. Many Floridians hide out in Gatlinburg in the summer. There is a LOT of money in them thar hills. And, its becoming the place of choice for Yankees to retire. Its more expensive than Florida, but its safer and you still have the changing of the seasons.

Hmmmm. I shouldn't have told you guys. Every now and then, we think of retiring down there. There goes the property values!

WHo, what, when, where?

1. First we have to find out just who is going.

2. Then we can decide on where we will stay.
My daughter stayed in a cabin in Gatlinburg that had a lodge for socializing...something like that would be good.

3. When this will happen.. Third weekend in May?

4. Activities

Add your name to the list:

Wow....GREAT deal there Susan.....

Susan, I think where we decide to do it will decide who is going. Maybe first we should come up with a definitive place and then second should figure out how many/who are coming?

I don't think people are going to be able to decide if they're going until a place and date is decided.

I already voiced my opinion as to where I would like to see this gathering take place. I'm flexible with a date, so I will leave it for others to decide, that have more time commitments than I do.
