funny this thread should come back up. i will be going away on a 2 week cruise to europe in april. altho, it could be the trip of a lifetime i'm not as excited about it since i've gotten my 2 babies! 1 yr old lovie and 5 mos old caique! my son will be home from college to take care of them, but i'm still nervous about leaving them. actually, the hubby was thinking about canceling (for other reasons) he was surprised i wasn't more upset ( i didnt want to tell him how much i'd miss the birds) but he decided not to cancel so we're still going. i'm sure the birds will be fine...it's just me.

I can say that I have never not gone on a fun trip because of any of my critters. I will get a sitter and have gotten a sitter. My last "long" trip was for 9 days and the long trip before that was for a week and the trip before that was for 2 weeks -- that's all in the span of less than two years. Both my pig and my bird stay at home and I have someone come in twice a day to take care of them. They're always fine when I return.

I wasn't allowed to take my lorikeet with me to my grandparents beach house because
a) my great aunt was allergic
b) my aunty was afraid of birds
My options were:
a) Go but leave the bird behind.
b) Stay home with my bird
c) Go but keep the bird very low-key
I couldn't leave her behind because she was very young and last time I had left her for only three days and she became an agressive biter and screamer for the next month!

Being stubborn and going against my totalletarian grandmothers wishes, I chose option c) and guess what? My Great Aunt wasn't even there and my Aunty fell in love with my lorikeet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We all had a great time and Ashling had her first beach visit AND had lots and lots of socialisation with new people!

Poor koko! Great story also about the lorikeet.

I havent not gone anywhere, but I worry! I call the bird sitter every day. She stops by once or twice a day to feed them. I worry that one of them is hurt or that they are stolen, or scared. I hate leaving them.

my b/f and I went away over one night for Valentine's Day and rushed back first thing in the morning because we didn't want our dove and other pets to be lonely - and we'd do it again!! I would love to go on a real trip, but there's nothing that would make me leave my critters behind, pet-sitter or no.

We try not to go anywhere lol. I worry about them, think of what they're plotting while we're gone... they're sneaky, so we don't leave for long periods of time. I think the longest so far was 4 days- we boarded them at a local specialty shop, and I remember when we were walking up the stairs to pick them up, our Severe did her little "fluffy headed-pin pointing eye thing" when she saw us, and when I locked eyes with our Sun across the room, he did his scream lol

Ahhhhh I love them!
