Question companion

O.K. I'm new at this so bare with me...., Our family has had a gcc for over 2yrs now and absolutely adore him and his quirkyness..ya never know whether you will receive a hug or a nip.. my question is now that my job situation has changed, I am no longer able to come home at lunch time to visit with Ozzie, I was wondering if getting a companion bird might be the answer to the long days away from his flock...(us!). My question is whether to stay with gcc and risk breeding, or find a suitable different breed...??? any suggestions to what different breed might make a new friend?

I know a good way not to risk breeding... don't put them in the same cage!

You would need a second cage for quarintine anyways so you will already have it!!!

I think conures seem to get along well with other conures.

Keep in mind though that there's no guarantee that two birds are going to get along. I recently got a second bird because I wanted my sun conure to have company.

It's turning out to be a little more stressful than I had anticipated because he doesn't get along with the new addition. That means they have to have separate out of cage time (i.e., each of them only gets out half as much as they'd get if I could have them out together).

Not insurmountable, but something to keep in mind.
