What do you feed your birds
1. A blend of Natural Foods ie; Seed Mix , Veggies , Fruits etc.
2. Pellets - formulated/ extruded foods 3. Both Last edited by Shades of Grey; 05-25-2008 at 03:03 AM. Reason: duplication of sentence |

Both.
Charlie eats pellets as his primary diet, and has recently started taking to fresh foods in his cage instead of *MY* foods, which most of the time are not healthy for him... He gets seeds as treats. Noel eats pellets AND seeds, plus fresh foods. Budgies, since getting too fat, have been switched over to pellets, with the occasional seed, and fresh foods. The cockatiels get seeds, fresh food, and a choice of pellets (which I'm sure at least one eats, if not two or more).

Davey's main staple is Zupreem fruit and natural pellets mixed together. I hope to get him away from the fruit because I hear they are high in sugar. The mornings he has a shower he gets some seed in a treat cup as a reward. He loves peas so most days I give them to him with a little bit of whatever other frozen vegetables I have. I thaw them, cut them up (not the peas) and give them to him. He likes his vegetables. Sometimes he gets a little piece of fruit but he likes his peas better.

Rocky gets Goldenfeast Hookbill Legume and Harrison's Coarse pellets. I make him a legume mixture (went to Bulk Barn and bought every kind I could find) that also has brown rice, quinoa, barley, hot peppers, vegetables, cranberries, blueberries, raisins in it. I make it in a huge batch and the freeze it in snack-size Ziploc bags. I warm a few tablespoons of this mixture in the microwave every morning. Sometimes he has oatmeal with baby food fruit of some sort mixed in.
My crow gets a high-quality dog kibble as his "pellets" and he is also given a portion of the warm bean mixture that I described above, plus whatever leftovers I have from the day. His particular favorite is to be given dead mice that we catch in the mousetraps in the garage. He produces boluses after he eats mice. He is also a big fan of bananas and popcorn. I regularly set aside a portion of scrambled eggs for both birds when I make them for myself, and mix in some of the shell for good measure. We raise our own laying hens so the eggs are totally free-range organic eggs. They both absolutely love the scrambled eggs. Rocky and my husband have a relationship that is based on cake and pastries. If my husband is eating something like that Rocky always gets a teeny nibble and thinks he is in HEAVEN. If Rocky sees my husband eating something he is right in there.

My Galah, Phoenix, gets a blend of Roudybush Low Fat Maintenance pellets and Le Feber pellets, a variety of greens and diced veggies, cooked brown rice and whole wheat pastas, wheatgrass, cooked beans, and as a treat: seeds. We also offer fruits occasionally but she really doesn't care for fruit as much as the other foods she's offered.

My birds (except for the budgies) eat pellets as their primary diet. I use Zupreem brand. The galah does get about 1/3 seed mix with that. The TAG gets seeds occasionally. I hold back on the seeds and nuts as regular diet but do use them for recall training every day. Right now they all have corn on the cob in their cages. I do give dried peas, and various fruits, veggies, depending on what I happened to get at the supermarket. So my answer is #3.
