My baby is coming back to me!

I am so happy. My dear sweet Humphrey is starting to forgive me for the vet incident! Today, for the first time since the vet (about 3 weeks ago), he flew over to me and tried to land on my head. Because my head was down (I was fling my toenails!) he couldn't land and flew away. But I still felt his feet on the back of my neck, and the wind generated by his flapping wings.

I can't tell you how happy I am that he's tried it. It means he wants to be with me again! Before the vet visit, he was constantly on my or my husband's head, lap, or shoulder.

I just said to my husband last night, "I think we've lost Humprhey's love forever:". My husband said he disagreed - he knows Humphrey will come back.

I don't want to get excited too soon, but this is what he did when he first started landing on us - flying over and flapping around our heads, wanting to land but unsure of howto do it. THen finally, he figured it out and you couldn't get him to stop landing on us.

Fingers crossed that he's coming back to me.

YEA :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
I am going to "assume" that you won't be taking him to the vet for a trim anytime soon! It makes me happy to hear that he has finally gotten over the clip; boy, he sure does hold a grudge for a long time - longer than most people I know!
Congrats sweetie!

I, too, am relieved by Humphrey's apparent turn around. I felt terrible for recommending a clip (I still think its the only safe option for MOST birds). However, as we all predicted, he did survive the ordeal and has decided that you are STILL his best friend.

Thanks Laurie and Nancy for your kind words.

I won't be having him clipped again, and we will have to adjust our plans and care accordingly. However, god forbid he ever gets ill or hurt, he'll have to be toweled at the vet. It was the toweling that really angered him. I hope he doesn't have to go to the vet for a long, long time. I'd rather be very, very vigilant and observant than take him for well bird visits.

He's taking his afternoon nap right now (he does his every day between 3:30 and 4:30) , and I am just looking at him, loving him so much. my little one., with his neck feathers fluffed and his beak tucked in.

My husband will be home all this weekend (he works more than me and he is home all weekend) and Humphrey seems to like when he is home. So we'll see if he tries to fly and land on us again. I'll keep you posted!

Just now, as I was laying on the sofa, Humphrey came out on the arm of the sofa, and gently started preening my hair. He preened me for about 5 minutes. I think he's my baby again.

Michele, I'm so happy for you and for Humphrey.
Just a suggestion... can you work on desensitizing him to the towel so that he's not so traumatized if he needs to be toweled again? Does he play hide and seek? My Cory is not so crazy about being toweled either, but we play hide and seek and sometimes I'll drop my bathroom towel on the floor and let her climb on it and check it out. I'm hoping she'll be better acclimated to it next time we're at the vet (on Monday, actually).
But for now enjoy that hair preening!

What a great idea,LMPego (I forget your real name). I think it's very wise to desensitize him to the towel, in case he ever needs the vet.

He won't play hide and seek, no way. He is SO SCARED of the towel. IN fact, one time I used the towel that I had toweled him with to take a quiche out of the oven and bring it in to serve. I walked past Humph's playstand with it and he freaked! It took me a whle to figure out what was bothering him - Oh, it's the purple towel!

Newsflash - as I type this, sitting on the floor wiht the laptop, he's flown down and climbed on my lap, then off. He's now pecking at the keys.

He sure holds a grudge, and when he decides to forgive, he forgives!

Another toweling suggestion.........none of my guys actually like being toweled, however, I have one towel specifically for each of them, and spend time playing with them with "their" towel. That way they can relate to "their" towel not being a threat............just a suggestion!
