sick bird?

Hi.
I was just up with my daughter and her tiel--and noticed green urine around some of his poop. I haven't noticed any from today, and they are primarily in the paper towel lining the food bowl that he sleeps in. I posted a picture in member galleries-- is the link (I think--).

He is eating and acting fine. He eats Kaytee exact original (no evil e) and Kaytee Fortidiet cockatiel seeds.--about 80/20 mix. We gave him some red pepper seeds last night. We're not sure how long this has been going on--we just noticed it today.

Comments? What do you guys think?

Thanks.

A change in droppings warrants a vet visit. It could indicate illness. Other possible indicators are a sudden change in behaviour, loss of appetite, weight loss, listlessness, aggression, sudden tameness, etc. Birds hide illness untill they are quite ill sometimes.

Hmm. I don't have any tiels, but I don't think that looks too bad. In fact, it may well be from the peppers.

Observe the droppings tomorrow and if they return to normal, just blow it off to the peppers. Fresh foods usually produce green and white poop with clear urates. You might want to add a few drops of lemon juice (just a wee bit) or perhaps a few drops of apple cider vinegar to his water. You want to raise the acidity of the water just a hair to inhibit bacterial growth. Frankly, I think he's fine, but I'm surely no vet. Any change in his behavior would warrant immediate attention should he act sleepy, have trouble maintaining body heat, difficulty with perching or things along those lines.

I think if you double check your bag of forti diet-you will find that it has 'e' in it... but I personally don't feel it's as 'eeeevil' as some make it out to be....

I'd give it a day or so. You are smart to be watching droppings. I also recommend getting a scale and weighing weekly. Possibly call a vet and make a tenative appointment for 3 days from now, and if the droppings are still irregular then take him for a visit.

Poop

Looks like your bird ate a bunch of seed then drank a ton of water.

The color is normal with a diet that has seeds in it and the lighter color looks like it is because of excess liquids in the feces(drinking more water than usual, maybe because the temp was high or not humid enough)

Keep an eye on it for a couple of days and check how much water your birds are taking in because this time of year they should be drinking a bucketload and that will cause a change in the shape and viscosity of the droppings. LOL

It can also be from the poop. I've seen bird poops where the color spread into the urine area, especially on paper towels. I'm not concerned, but it's not my bird, I don't know the circumstances, etc. Don't listen to anything I say, LOL. It's only my opinion.

Hey.

Thanks for everyone's input--he seems o.k., we're going to watch him for another day--he had some green ones on his paper towel last night, but this a.m. we saw him actually do one & it wasn't green, so maybe it is just leeching out when it sits for a while...we'll keep you posted.

Where else could you have a whole long conversation about bird poopies?lol

Boy do I feel stupid . I thought it was only an issue in the pellets--not in the seed...and it's not in the pellets at all, but you were right--it is in the seed...

Thanks for pointing this out to me.
