Bird Talk Magazine Small Parrots

From Robert and Hercules. The main reason I like the Bird Talk magazine is that they treat the small birds as important. The small parrots are seen as real parrots and not as emotional or otherwise, substitute grafication. See http://www.theanimalnetwork.com/bt/D...aspx?aid=22552 BEST from Robert and Hercules

...well, actually...I remain appalled at the way most small birds are treated...I don't think there should be 'mass production' of budgies and 'tiels and the less expensive finches...it's too easy to put together a really cheap, inadequate starter package that most people will consider adequate...then, when the bird dies in 2 years or so, they figure that's the life-span of the bird...

...if budgies cost $150-200, if their cages were larger instead of the smallest available size (and more expensive) I'll bet things would improve dramatically for them...

I love small parrots, too (obviously). Of course, nobody ever told the "small" birds that they are small birds!

That is why I charge 175 dollors for my cockatiel chicks. I will probably charge 75 for my parakeet chicks.

My family is always saying I'm crazy because I bring in my birds for "wellness checks" My brother one time said I don't even bring my kids in for a wellness check. I also have them groomed at the vet he's the only one I'll trust and i'm to big of a wimp to do it myself. But I hate how people will say I'm not taking a $20.00 bird to the vet. When I got my cockatiel she was pretty cheap in my opinion at $58 but she was to be the second additon so I had $160.00's worth of tests ran on her. My mom was sickened by it. Alot of people just don't understand.

I love the small birds too. I'm a huge fan of budgies, they are the most underrated birds.
It says in the article "Buy the biggest cage you can afford". I hate that expression. Articles should indicate the minimum cage size only. If someone cannot afford a proper sized cage they cannot afford the bird.

I don't understand people that don't take the little birds to the vet because they were cheap. Why is a $500 bird's life worth more than a $20 bird's life?
