Unhappy Rest in peace, little Achilles

I have some heart-breaking news. (It broke my heart, atleast.)
As I write I am currently in AL for a cousin's wedding. I've been having a blast with my family but recieved some bad news when my Dad flew down here for the wedding today.
My Mom had been watching Gimpy for me, and she's been doing a stand-up job. She really had grown to love little Gimpy as she has a huge heart and an affinity towards animals, especially injured ones. A few days ago she found Gimpy on his back in his cage, and was worried that this meant something bad. She brought him to the vet. Our normal vet was out of town for the week, so Gimpy was seen by someone we're unfamiliar with. The man immediatly wanted to take Gimpy's casts off, and to do so put him under anesthesia...

... And my poor little baby didn't wake up.
My Mom feels so guilty she's about to burst, and apparently she cried in the waiting room when she was informed of Gimpy's passing away. She is devistated, as am I.
I love Gimpy and am glad that he went peacefully and that he was able to be as comfortable as he was with a full tummy and a clean cage. He may very well have been sick and might not have made it through the night, anyways. I'm sorry I have to tell all of you this very sad news. I cried when my Dad told me, and am now worried about Beatrix's health. Thank you all for all of your support and the feedback you've given me for Gimpy. We all appreciate it.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I know all too well the devastating feeling in the pit of your stomach. You and yours will also be in my prayers.

I think we all fell in love with Gimpy through your stories and pictures. His passing is sad, and widely felt I'm sure.

Fran:

Take comfort in knowing that you did your very best. You didn't take shortcuts and you took on the challenge that wasn't even really yours. He's fine and completely cured on the other side.
