How our move affected the birds-Cherryhead, U2
I was posting a few months ago about how my cherry head conure was not getting along with other birds. Someone mentioned moving would help and I thought I would update. Moving has helped some of our birds. Not with really getting along but with other things.
Cherryheaded Wille CHC , Willie was quite negelected and kept in the dark for a very long period of time. Thus she had many neurotic behaviors. The move has helped break some of the behaviors. She used to shred paper and sit at the bottom of the cage all the time. She had a toy she would regurgitate to and hold under her wing. This cage bottom thing was driving me nuts and I did have her vet checked to make sure she was not ill. Well since we moved Willie has been up on a perch and playing with her hanging toys and acting more like a normal bird. She still dislikes the other birds but is not going out of her way to actively attack them. She can now get out with the other birds as long as the other birds do not try to sit by her. I feel bad she will not let herself be part of the conure flock but I know sometimes it takes years for a rescue to get over previous abuse. Our U2 Tyler has always been a very nervous bird with a major plucking problem. Until we get an addition built there was no room in the bird room for her and her huge cage. So we put her in our son's bedroom since he is her very favorite person. Her plucking has toned down and she is acting much much calmer. She looks like a very very happy bird. She has always been a quiet bird so now I am thinking the screams of six conures and a pionus was what was making her nervous. Also not having strangers walking anywhere near her cage makes her more comfortable. We might just keep her separate fom the smaller birds. The rest of the birds adjusted well after a few weeks of non stop screaming. My Zorro had some trouble at first adjusting to new flying space since he is half blind. His landings were off and he was skimming wall corners. We were close to clipping him. But we found by increasing the light to the brightest possible when he was out helped him figure out the room layout. So that is my birdie move update. Thanks all. Lynda

Glad to hear overall that things went well! It's great to always figure out a way to best help the birds out!

Thanks Laurie, Lara, Monica.
Thanks Nancy. I would love to post more. But I have so much on my hands all the time. Either with house projects, rescue birds, teenagers, plus a list I own on Yahoo groups ( for nandays). It never ends. Right now we just got all our tile chisled up and the quickset scraped away. We will be laying 350 sq feet of Pergo this weekend. That is as long as we don't get TS Dennis ruining all our plans. Lynda

Now those storms that come up from under Cuba are like monsters in my closet. They give me a lot of anxiety. I know people who are still living in houses falling down, filled with mold and no electric. I dread another summer like last. Lynda

I agree totally Lynda; we have so many people here still living in FEMA trailors with no place to call home. It is a sad, sad situation all around!
These storms didn't really affect me much either, before becoming a parront; now I worry about them more than I do myself. Let's pray Dennis leaves us alone.
