Looking for a Rescue in Middle/Southern Michigan

Hi,

I have aging parents AND an Umbrella Cockatoo who is going through her second "hormonal" season. This is proving to be a difficult situation. I have to travel an hour to meet the needs of my parents and after ten years no longer have the time I need to devote to my Umbie. I would like her to be rehomed by people who know what they are doing. Does anyone have any suggestions? She's not plucking but I know it's only a matter of time if I don't do the right thing here.

Thanks for your time!!

Well Bless your heart!!!
You have NO idea how absolutely refreshing it is to have someone like you come to the board with such a request.
Lots of folks out there would not even bother.
Although I am in San Diego and can't help you much I am sure that there will be someone here that can help you.
Welcome to the board and Thank you so much for restoring faith in the Human race again.

I just KNOW someone here is going to be able to help you out. I know how difficult this is, I had to rehome 4 of my birds 2 yrs ago and it's still such a heartbreak for me. They are in the best homes possible, but still, my heart is empty without them. I pray for you and someone just right to help you and your bird!
Hugs,
Linda & Skye~

Thumbs up Cockatoo needing rescue

I have two ideas. First of all, I do know of a Rescue in MI. Magickwings@aol.com
I don't remember where she is in MI. I just tried to write her because she is on line IM but not taking any messages right now. Anyway. I know she also adopts birds out. That was my first idea but not the one I like the best.
The other is that I would love to take her. I am trying to start a Rescue Center. It does take time to do. I do have birds that I raise and love and I also have breeders. All my breeders are pets as well. I do not have any birds that are breeders only. As part of the rescue, I would not use them as breeders but as pets only. If they are unable to be handled, I would work with them. I am currently working with a few birds that were given to me and are not breeders. I live in WI. I would travel to pick her up and to meet with you.
Other than these 2 ideas, I come up dry. If you are interested in the later, you write to me at: amiyisrael@aol.com If you wish more information on the already established Rescue Center and are unable to reach Laura at the above email address, then write me and I will get more information for you. Good Luck.
